Hello,
I recently bought about 90 acres in West Central Illinois, Jacksonville. I also bought a new tractor to work the land. The land is for recreational use, mostly just a place for me to unwind and walk the dogs. It is aobut 8 acres of pasture and yard around the house, and the rest is an overgrown almost impenetrable forest. I hope to clean up the forest. Right now it is filler with a lot of Black Locusts, Osage Orange, Buckthorn, Multiflora and over scary thorny plants. There are some nice Walnut, Sycamore and Cottonwood trees which I want to keep, but the other stuff I want to clean out. There are 4 creeks running through the property and they are full of downed trees and brush that I want to clean up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have thought about: Forestry Mulcher (very expensive), goats, prescribed burns. Right now I am going at it with: chainsaw, FEL, root grapple, machete and a lot of sweat and blood, and it is slow going, not to mention all the stumps that I will have to get rid of yet.
As far as the Tractor, it is a good machine; easy to use, versatile, powerful and quiet, I just wish the underside had more protection, I have tore up the elctrical on the 3rd function valve and bent some pipes that are leaing oil which I need to fix yet. Overall I am happy with the tractor; however I dont have much to compare it too, since it is my first
