Hello everyone, I've been lurking on here for quite some time. Been over researching the heck out of tractors and have come to the conclusion that a Kioti is what I'm looking for. I'm just not exactly sure the size I would need. Ive convinced myself that at least 40 hp is needed but would like some opinions. I purchased a 6 months ago 60 acres in Western Kentucky with a 50/50 pasture/timber mix and variable terrain with some steep grades in the timber area. The property has been untouched (aside from hay) for some time and needs a lot of work. There are lots of felled tree's, some really thick brush, long gravel drive (700-800 ft), pasture maintenance (30 acres), fence built, a narrow gravel road approx 900 ft that needs to be built for access to the back pasture (the land was divide before I got to it and the previous owners sold off the access road to my 20 acre pasture), just lots of work.

Im looking at open station setups, HST and would really like the fender mounted loader control (I have a bad right shoulder from my running around in other countries days of the Army) and holding it out for the loader mounted control during heavy use could be problematic.

So thats what I'm trying to bring up to par and would like some input. Im looking more at used than new but will buy new if the right used tractor just doesn't come along.

I SHOPED FOR A LONG TIME FOR A USED TRACTOR FOR WORK IN THE WOODS AND BOX BLADE WORK. I ALSO LIKED THE KIOTI. I FOUND A DS4110 (41 HP) WITH 400HRS. I LOVE IT.
IT HAS THE JOY STICK ON THE LOADER ARM, NOT ON THE FENDER. I HAVE A BODY FULL OF ARTHRITIS AND DON'T FIND IT DIFFICULT TO USE THE LOADER. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SERCH.

You will receive a lot of input from some very knowledgeable people on this forum - there is a ton of experience here.
And then there's me -;)
You situation sounds much like mine. If I have a single regret about the tractor I bought, it would be that I bought too small. My tractor is 32hp with a weight of 2600, not including the FEL.
I could use both more power and more weight, particularly working with trees and brush. Shortly, someone is going to post that weight is the most important factor. Weight is indeed important, but when the ag tires are dug in - and not slipping - yet I cant budge that log - I'm short on power. So 40hp is to me a very minimum I would suggest.

Have you looked at these?

I did look into them briefly. I didnt dig into the research. Of all the popular brands they were the dealership that is the furthest away by almost an hour further. On top of that this dealership had horrible reviews, primarily on service issues that came up from newly purchased tractors.

That was one of the things I took into consideration. I am located directly between 2 Kioti dealerships that have over 100 Five Star reviews for their service after the sale.

Ill give them another look!

First off...thank you for your service!

Second...you're wise to seriously consider your access to a good dealer. You're buying the tractor...you're marrying the dealer. Make sure he's a keeper!

Good luck. Let us know what you decide.

I have a 2015 CK27 HST and it works for what I need. I would have liked a bigger tractor but living in a National Forest the smaller size lets me get in and around all the tree's and trails. Do you live near Paducah ? Reason I ask is I bought my Kioti at Little Tractor in Metroplis,IL. Great dealer to work with. Sounds like you need a 35+ hp tractor. Your right about the FEL joystick....I stayed away from the ones that were a stretch for my arm ! I also wanted the adjustable lower 3 pt hitch linkage arms....makes hooking up implements so much easier. The Kioti also had a better ground clearance. Sounds like you will have fun and the satisfaction of owning your own land !!

One thing to consider is that the Kioti three cylinder engines switch from naturally aspirated for 40 hp and below to turbocharged ant 45 hp and above, or at least they did when I bought my ck4010 se hst cab tractor.

My 40 hp tractor has what I consider adequate power most of the time, but a properly developed turbocharged engine will have higher torque rise at low and mid speeds than a naturally aspirated from the same family.

If you are looking at a Kioti in the 40-50 hp range, I recommend you step up to the DK or NX series with their larger, heavier frame size and turbocharged engines.

The ck series does a fine job for its class, but seems a little overwhelmed for forty acres of rough land, in my opinion.

I also recommend a factory cab. It’s not 1937 anymore.

.

Interesting you say that, I’m actually eyeballing a used NX6010HST. It’s missing the 3rd function valve but I can always add that later.
