Just acquired a new (to me) JD 2520. Four years old, with only 185 hours. Great machine!! However, I have an electrical/charging problem - already
The charge light came on, intermittently, then permanently - more or less :confused:. I switched the hazard flashers on, they worked and the charge light went off. Thenn the flashers stopped, the charge light stays off. I switched the head lights on, they worked and the charge light went off - until the head lights went off - and the charge light also.

I have checked the battery voltage with all these permutations - there is no charge to the battery. I have tested the alternator output, this shows 18 volts AC at engine idle speed - that's OK - the alternator works.

Suspect that the problem must be a faulty connector - somewhere. But where?

Can anyone out there throw some light on this problem, please?

(One good thing, I have removed the "dashboard" to get at the electrics and have discovered that the tractor has pre-heat glow plugs, however the Operator's manual doesn't mention this at all.)

Update. Cleaned all the electrical connections, with electrical/electronics components cleaner. Battery voltage was 12.6 volts (low, but >12V). however the lighting circuits were 17v :)mur:). Called the experts, guess what? I had not cleaned the connector from alternator to wiring harness and harness to regulator. These were very badly corroded (remember, only 183 hours on the clock!). These were cleaned up, with a new new piece of cable spliced into the alternator/harness connection (yes, the corrosion had gone into the cable!!). Problem solved. Suggest other 2520 owners check their alternator/harness connectors. Now, wew are back in business and can confidently attest "Nothing runs like a Deere"

Good work! Despite not having any answers before you fixed it, isn't it nice to have a place where you can think about it while being away from it? Sometimes a little clearing can help...
