Hi all,

Thanks for a great forum. I expect to visit often so I figured I better register. My new BX1850 with FEL and MMM will be delivered today, and I have my first question:

I ordered the optional cruise control thinking I can install it myself. The dealer wants $300 to install, because apparently it's a hassle (i.e., a lot of parts have to be removed to get access). I thought I read a post a while back about it being fairly easy, but I can't seem to locate that thread anymore. Anybody have experience installing the cruise? If this is better left to the dealer, I might be willing to postpone delivery.

I thought CC was standard? It was on my BX2350 or at least that's how the dealer ordered all of his machines.

FWIW, I rarely use the CC. I have about 3 acres that I mow but there isn't a stretch long enough to need it. Now if it worked in reverse then I'd use it all the time while snowblowing with the 3PH blower.

I use the CC often - when I'm heading for the dump pile or some other traverse I will throttle right back and engage the CC. I go slow and take a break as I go - saves fuel and I find it hard on my back if I go fast on the bumps.

CC is standard on the BX2350 and BX24 but not the 1850. I didn't use it on my JD that I had previous to the BX so I didn't bother ordering my 1850 with it.

I second that. Our MF 1523 has cruise, and if it worked in reverse, we would be so happy.

Any reason why it does not work in reverse??

FWIW I use mine all the time. I mow 6 acres and the length of the yard is 1100 feet long. So cruise is critical. It all depends on the need I suppose.

I still think $300 is a bit pricey. Good luck with the install.

As it turned out, one of the mounts for the FEL wasn't shipped and so the tractor had to be delivered without the FEL. When the other mount comes in next week, dealer with deliver FEL and install the cruise for free. Nice to know there are still good dealers who try to make things right!

...now back to reading the manuals.

swmpbgy1,

Hi neighbor. I heard good things about Thompson's, but went with PARCS in Bruceton Mills. A little competition is a good thing. I mowed some grass last evening for about 45 min -- want to break it in slowly. So far, I'm very happy with the cut and performance. Go Mountaineers!
