My name is Jon and I wanted to introduce myself. I recently purchased a new (to me) home with 7 acres of land here in Cumming, GA. I quickly realized that a tractor/loader or skid steer would be an invaluable tool around the place. I have budgeted 10K and am actively searching for my first tractor. I will update the forums once my purchase has been made.

Welcome aboard.
You are right - with 7 acres to take care of a tractor will save your back and help you get a lot more done in a day.

From Alabama. You do not have to wait until you have a tractor to join in.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I honestly don't know what kind of tractor I will be getting, I am in the learning stage right now. I tried out a Yanmar/Cub SCUT this evening that had an FEL on it and it felt way to small. I like the bigger Ford but they seem to be mostly 2 wheel drive and my buddy says that I will regret it if I don't get a 4 wheel drive. The property is just over 7 acres with 3 acres cleared (basically a lawn) and the rest heavily wooded with a steep decline at one end of the property that ends at a creek. My goal is to be able to get a FEL and a backhoe attachment, however I am only seeing this in my price range on the SCUT tractors. Gonna keep studying and trolling Atlanta Craigslist.

I bought my tractor in cumming, ga look at the Branson Tractor dealer in that area (Chuck). He might be able help you decide. PM me if you want more info for him.

Look at online sales sites like Tractor House. It can help you with pricing and you may see something at a dealer that you would never see on Craigs List. http://www.tractorhouse.com/

Also there can be good deals at dealers. I see used and new tractor dealers when I am driving around. The dealer 10 miles from me had a nice John Deere 950. The tractor needed a bit of love but I bet it could be a good deal.

Backhoes in smaller sizes cost $4,000 to $7,000 new. They do not seem to depreciate quickly and are sort of hard to find. On the other hand finding a decent $10,000 used 4wd tractor with loader might be easier. Anyhow if you feel sporting Tractor House has some great teases for you. http://www.auctiontime.com/OnlineAuctions/Details.aspx?OHID=9078337&lp=th
