Hello folks. I have been reading the forums for a while and finally made an account to ask questions I have come across. A few years ago I bought a small 80ish acer place to call my own in retirement years and am in the process of cleaning it up. The people I purchased it from did not take the best care but that is past and this is now and not worth getting into details. I have learned a lot of things over the last few years and must say the most important thing I learned is I have a LOT of learning to go

The wife and I have bought a used Kubota BX, that we now know it too small, a used pull behind Swisher, that we now know is too small, and a used New Holland skid steer, that while works well at some tasks we now realize is not the best fit. Anyway, we have met some awesome folks in the area and some not so nice folks that liked our stuff more then we did I guess. More lessons learned not worth getting into, I want to learn from the past but focus on the future :)

Hi welcome. Sorry about the lost equipment. Love my BX but 80 acres would need a little more like maybe and L series.

Thanks for the welcome Dave. Lost equipment is a bummer but life is short and these belongings do not go on with us so I chalk it up to lessons learned and try to not let it get to me, anymore ;)

And I agree, that little BX is an awesome piece of equipment but just too small. Our top 10 acer pasture is a multi-day mow. Thick grass on a mid mount finish deck is too much for the BX to deal with. I have hooked up with a fellow who has a ~70hp Kubota and a 10' bushwacker that is clearing for me and is an awesome person. I am word-of-mouth going to sell my skid steer and buy a bigger, most likely used, tractor. But that is a question for another forum section :)

Welcome to forum membership! Hopefully we can make the learning experience less painful.

Welcome to the forums...I'm down in Russellville myself. The M series from Kubota or another mid/heavy utility tractor in the range of 40-90hp should do the trick. My mom got a m7040 for our 80 acres down in south AR and that seems to be a great size. Our old massey 35 could keep up but having a fel and the extra hp to pull a 10 foot bush hog is great!

keep an eye out for equipment auctions and sometimes government auctions that carry the batwing style mowers and even flail mowers from time to time.

Sorry about the stuff walking off, we have that problem too, perhaps get a good guard donkey and put in with your equipment :)

Sorry MoKelly, not a Cardinals fan. I actually live in TX and bought the place in AR to clean up over the next ten years. I will most likely be picking up beer cans and old tires for the next 20 years. As for my team, I like a couple but here in Texas ... don't hold it against me :)

The guy that is mowing my place right now, clearing the brush that has been growing the last 5+ years has a M7060 with a 10' Bushwacker. It is making a huge difference. He is going slow but man oh man, the place has been shaping up over the last couple months now that I can see it again. I have been reading some other threads on here trying not to post duplicated questions and found some threads along the lines of what I am looking at but nothing is really an exact fit.

No problems.

Actually, we here in STL are kind of fond of the Rangers. That was one of the best World Series wins in Cardinal history! David Freese is gone to sunny California, but th ememories are still bright.

I am glad we are out of the Big 12 and away from Texas in the SEC. Much more fun conference.

MoKelly
