New Member from San Diego

Hello! We are building our future homestead just outside San Diego. I have been reading the forums and articles for quite some time. I finally joined because I am getting ready to buy a tractor for keeping up our road, planting our trees, and moving around dirt. I'll post soon in the other forums as I start narrowing things down. I'd really appreciate knowing if anyone has had positive or negative experiences with local dealers.

I was down there visiting a friend in the 90s. Never thought of it as a place to own a tractor. Lots of subdivisions and undeveloped hills. Curious, how things might have changed.

If I'm not mistaken, there simply is not a large choice of tractor dealers in SD county.

A Mahindra dealer in El Cajon.

A JD dealer in Escondido.

A Kubota-New Holland dealer in Escondido.

A Massey-JD dealer in Valley Center.

Maybe a Bobcat dealer in Miramar in the next few months

I lived in SD for many years starting the early 70s. At that time Poway was pronounced Pow-why. I think that pronunciation has been lost with its growth. There were a number of small ranches and orchids and probably less than a couple of hundred houses. There used to be a great country and western bar that was in an old stone building. Is it still there?

Now as you know, its a city unto itself.

I have been at the Kubota and Deere in Escondido. I am recently interested in Yanmar there too. I am looking the compact range of hp. I don't want too big and tall, my neighbor has a JD4210 and said he wouldn't recommend smaller( JD3039, or YT235) are my current interests.

We have 6 acres, it is up and down. Lately, a lot grading done by big bulldozers, think volcano with house on top and long filings driveway to maintain. Besides the driveway maintenance and general hauling and distribution of mulch etc, I love to be outside with my chickens and plants. The tasks that support that hobby are digging. Whether it is irrigation lines, or trees, I think digging will be another need.

What I struggle with is I get the impression that any compact tractor backhoe attachment is just going to scratch the surface of our clay and boulder land. I get the impression that renting a skid steer is a better investment. I will be getting a loader and a box grader for the tractor. I will try to post some land pictures.
