Tractor
Hoping to by kubato
Hi everyone, I am looking to purchase a tractor for use in greece when I retire, I used to work on my uncles farm when I was a teenager so it has been a LONG time since I last sat on a tractor. I am looking for something with around 24HP and goodenough to use a Flail (Ryetec possibly) The tractor needs to be small to get along the olive tiers. Any advice and guidence would be gratefully received.

Hi and welcome. The only advice I can offer is make sure you have dealer support in Greece. A lot of good choices for tractors but dealer support can be hard to determine until you need them.

I am hoping that the farmer who currently rents my land will give me advice on the best place to get support. The local town of Missinia has quite a few dealers and repair shops and my local village of Harakopio has a couple as well. I just need to make sure I get the right size of tractor (width) to fit on the olive grove tiers and the right power to drive a hedge cutter type flail for clearing both ground and banks (banks are to steep to drive up/down) and to keep the track between the village and my place drivable (vegitation encroches every year)

Welcome to TBN Mike,

I think you have a good handle on getting advice from the farmer who rents your land for dealer support. You'll need to know the actual width tractor you need then discuss with local dealers as to what tractor brands are available in your area that will meet those needs. I will suggest getting a tractor with 4WD and R1 Ag tires for traction over R4 industrial or R3 turfs due to steep banks.

Thanks for the advice on tires. I will definately be getting 4WD and it will have to be narrow to get along some of the teirs. My farmers tractor is to big for some areas. I am also looking to get a side arm flail so that I can cut the banks without actually driving up or down them. I have seen a Ryetec http://www.ryetec.net/product.php?id_product=18 which looks pretty good anyone had experience of these?

That Ryetec looks like the real ticket, but for tractors have a look at the italian manufacturers, almost all of them have an orchard or vineyard line. Low slung machines with plenty of power.
