Originally planned on a Kubota BX25, but decided I wanted a wider mower and more PTO HP for the $, and that I could rent an excavator when needed instead of getting the backhoe.
It took about ten years to get rid of all the trash cedar trees and their stumps, then the drought stressed oaks plus some straight line winds resulted in suddenly having a 20 year supply of firewood. But with the cedars gone and good rain, the remaining oaks are now growing nicely.
Planned projects:
(0) Do not let the ROPS hit the guy wires!
(1) Learn to use 60" rotary cutter efficiently so 8 acres can be mowed in a reasonable number of hours and thus more than once per year, and the desired native stuff (buffalo grass, blue grama, curly-mesquite, and bluebonnets) can take over fully from the nightshade, sage, Johnson grass and assorted weeds.
(2) Move and stack even more big and small rocks, with a lot less time and effort.
(3) Fill and level where big rocks were removed.
(4) Condense brush piles and manage burning.
(5) Smooth out or terrace some grades.
(6) Dry stack retaining walls.
(7) Dry stack fire / BBQ pit.
(8) Prep garden area by removing rocks and getting it ready for a future PTO tiller.
(9) Finally build a house out here to replace the cargo container shack?
That should keep me out of trouble!
