Hi All,
I am a new member and late last year we bough around 20 acres of wooded land in Pullman Mi. I'm not looking to really develop the land but it does seem like having a smaller tractor with PTO would be nice. I also like older things and would rather not get the new compact tractors. From the research I have made it sounds like a ford 600 series is just about perfect.
The main use for the tractor would be to maintain a trail (width of an ATV) around the property, clearing some brush and help putting up a small 14x14 cabin or two. In the future we may also want to add a small acre pond but I think that would be beyond the capability of this machine although the soil is mostly sand.
I have never used a tractor in the past but I am mechanically inclined and have restored a few older cars not that I am looking to restore a tractor. I would like the tractor to have a front loader, a back hoe, a brush mower, and an auger. I found a model 600 not too far away but it has been sitting for 2 years and the owner does not seem to be able to provide the serial number so I can't decode the exact number. Can you guys give me your thoughts? I'm not so much worried about the engine as that should be familiar territory but not being able to test the hydraulics seems scary. Anyway feel free to call me foolish and give me your thoughts! Thanks in advance!
