HI nick from Arkansas,Whats the trouble.

Please bear with me. I have never used one of these forums before so I may make a lot of mistakes.

I have a John deer 950 and the other day I had a fuel line that went from the fuel filter to the fuel pump that had a small but decent spray coming out so I decided to go to John deer and get some new fuel line. I went and paid 15 bucks for two different pieces of fuel kine that the dude acted like he looked up on his computer. When I got home and looked both pieces were either too big or too small.

So I used the bigger hose because the inside diameter looked closest to the hose that was used. I had to really push the hose on both ends to fit onto the fittings. The squeeze clamps wouldn't completely fit around but it looked like it was very snug.

So I bled the metal lines leading up to the injectors. Plus the screws on the fuel filter and the screw on the fuel pump.

When I have the metal lines unhooked from the injectors the second and third metal lines squirt diesel alternating but the first line (the one closest to the radiator) acts like it tries to squirt but just not very hard and it is continually flowing with diesel but not squirting like the other two.

I was worried the plunger in the fuel pump may be stuck from what I'd read on another post on here so I had my wife crank while I banged on area around the fuel pump hoping it would unstick if that was the problem.

I'm really at a loss I've been fighting this for a couple days now trying all kinds of different stuff and all from just changing out a hose not even 8 inches long.

P.S. sorry if my phone autocorrected any of this and changed words or if was kinda just a jumble I been trying so hard to figure this out any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the terrible grammar too.

Other than the fuel leak, was the tractor running good prior to installing the line? If so, I'm guessing you haven't got all the air out of the system.

First make certain that your new line fits tight and isn't allowing any air into the system. I'd get some clamps that fit and put those on. I have also found that modern fuel hose is just a little bigger OD than the original. I have also had trouble reusing the original clamps on the 950 fuel lines. Mostly on the return lines.

I also assume you haven't disturbed or tried to pull the injectors?

Bleed both screws on the filter housing. Bleed the injector pump. Crack all three lines at the injectors, wide open throttle and crank for 10 seconds. Repeat at least once. Tighten the lines and see if it fires.

If it ran well before you replaced the line it seems unlikely it won't run correctly now. 99% of the time your problem is the last thing you touched.

Yes sir Mr. Timberhole it ran perfectly fine for a older tractor. I have always been terrified of even messing with the injectors so I never put a wrench near them. I keep thinking something might be wrong with the fuel pump but I couldn't figure out how to even get into the fuel pump. I have now messed with this tractor for a while and it's getting so frustrating but I'm gonna keep at it. Do you think there could be something hung up or open because the very front metal fuel line continually has fuel leaking but not squirting like the others.

The saddest part is I told myself right before I changed that line I better mow the yard cause knowing my luck it wouldn't work and surprise what do ya know hahaha

How long should it take to get air out of the metal lines?

It takes a lot to get the air out. I usually bleed the thing the best I can and if it still won't fire I get something and pull it till it starts. I had an old 445 long I never could get bled. Usually a little pull down the road got it going. I hate burning up starters trying to get a diesel running but, that's just me.

So which lines are squirting ad which are leaking? Often system isn't tight it may never prime. The procedure outlined I my previous post should bleed a 3T90J on a 950!
