JD 750 4WD, Kubota L4600DT
Im a new member, but have a 4wd JD 750, purchased new in '85. Last Saturday, bought a new K 4600DT, 4wd, ag tires, shuttle tranny and a FEL. I will take possession this Friday. But, while playing with it at the dealers, I detected some type of kill switch connected to the seat. When I would stand up to look over the front, motor stops. I got to thinking, in the past while using my JD tractor, I often stand or get off to have a closer look at something in my path or to adj the rear rt link, or many other reasons. Heck, I might get off and on 50 or even 100 x in a day. I sure dont want to have to start the engine that many times. I gotta think that switch is something mandated by our OSHA types. 'So, do most of you guys that get newer units with this type of switch over ride it somehow? Looks like this coupd be easily done with a small cable tie.

Kill Switch On New Tractor

I am a new member, but a tractor owner for past 29 yrs. Saturday, just bought a new Kubota L4600DT, 4wd shuttle trans w/FEL. Wont pick it up till this Fri, but while testing it out @ the dealers, I detected a kill switch under the seat. Anytime I would stand, the engine dies. I often stand to look over the hood, or get off (just for a few seconds) for a variety of reasons. Maybe even 50-100 x per day. Seems crazy to do that many restarts.

So, do most guys disable that switch? Seems like a small cable tie would do the trick. Thanks in advance.

(Probably an OSHA mandated device, to protect me from me.)

Yes, it's a safety switch & easy to do away with.

Congrats on a Nice tractor!

I don't have that nanny switch on either of my tractors (Kioti DK50SE and Kubota BX23). I would HATE that. I think most of the guys on this forum that have them have disabled them.

I'm one of those that hates having a SSSSSSS on my tractor (Simple Simon Supplemental Seat Switch Safety System). Having such is often a matter just of the age of a series of tractors (" 'neutral' range select, 'brake locked', 'seat occupied' ", much fiddling anymore ....)

Having dodged the turmoil elsewhere regarding the safety and wisdom of disabling such a nag or not, a thought came to me as I clicked on this thread. "Pressure Mat". Compact enough and properly placed, one or two wired in parallel to a seat switch could allow looking over the hood when we like to and leave the SSSSSSS otherwise unmolested. :confused3:

Now that I think about it :duh:, to be able to dismount I'm considering just a SPST toggle SW wired the same way anyway, & maybe the foot switch idea is a bit far-fetched if not costlier.

btw: I don't mind stalling once in a while because I didn't say "Simon says" when I goofed as much as hearing that d__ scolding beep. :hissyfit:

More like ANSI. All manu's have to meet cetain regs these days to, as you said-"protect you from you". More like protect the manu from a moron's lawsuit.

If I had to stand that much, I would bypass that switch. I don't though, so it doesn't bother me.

Congrats on your new machine, and welcome to the forum.:)

Re: Kill Switch On New Tractor

I put a poly cable tie on mine. That did the trick. My machine is pretty much like yours. it will take you a couple minutes and voila

Re: Kill Switch On New Tractor

Were any of the PTOs powered?

Was it in gear?

From what I can tell My Mahindra doesn't have one.

But a small piece of wire with blade ends would probably also bypass it as well.

Re: Kill Switch On New Tractor

First off, welcome!

Second, yes, new tractors have these to prevent the machine from running over you if you fall off (it happens).

I haven't disabled mine, because you can still stand up and creep forward without killing the engine.

Third, starting multiple identical threads on the same question is frowned upon, and considered poor form. It causes answers to one question to be spread around in more than one place, making it harder for people to find in search results. It also frequently causes the same posters, who answer a lot of questions here, to respond more than once, because they don't always look at who the OP is. ;)

If the kill switch is shutting things off when you stand up with the tractor in neutral something is wrong with it.
If it is shutting the tractor off, it thinks that you are in gear, or have the PTO on.
