Kubota BX23S
Hi, I have already benefitted greatly by reading some of the forum posts and I appreciate all the folks out there taking their time to post answers for newbies like me. Great stuff.

I recently purchased a Kubota BX23S and am at 29.4 hours on the meter... time for its first oil change and maintenance according to the book. We will see how that goes... I'm a lousy mechanic!

Living in Wisconsin, I am trying to get ready for my first winter with the BX. May need a charger for the battery, may need an engine block heater, may also need additional lights for the tractor... just don't know. Also may need a bigger coat for clearing snow. Presently I have the FEL and Backhoe, which of course comes with the BX23S, also added a Land Pride post hole digger and a Kubota snow blade. Right now I am prepping the ground for a pole barn to house everything... concrete pour is scheduled for about ten days from now.

I am really a woodworker, I also make videos and do woodworking classes. You can find me by "googling" the Down To Earth Woodworker. As a novice tractor owner, I am looking forward to getting good information from the folks here. I want to thank everyone who posts here, it looks like a really friendly place!

To the TBN forum. We are glad that you went ahead and joined.

The first oil, filter and hydraulic filter change on my tractor was at 50 hours. 29.4 seems a little early.

You are correct... It was my abysmal typing. The first oil change is at 50 hours and I am at 49.4. Thanks!

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Just follow your Owner Manual's instructions + use a wee bit of forethought. Do you have an oil-pan and container to drain into, do you have an oil-filter wrench that will fit the filter(s) (one size does not fit all). Do everything on a level surface. A little planning goes a long way.

Definitely run your tractor for about a half hour prior to draining the oil and remember that not all of the oil is going to drain out, no matter how long you allow for it. Refill 'gingerly' at the end.

Enjoy the site.

Well, thank you everyone for the encouraging words. Somewhat like "Zen and the Art of Tractor Maintenance" I found myself actually enjoying changing the oil, filter, hydraulic filter and air filter. My first attempt was aborted because I had no filter wrench that could get into the tight spot and around the oil filter, but after getting this gadget:
Amazon.com: INNOVANT Adjustable 3 Jaw Oil Filter Wrench tool best for removing motorcycles cars trucks and heavy duty oil filters fits diameter from 54 - 116 mm (2 1/8" Inch - 4 1/2" Inches) Fits ⅜ And 1/2" Drive: Automotive
it was very easy. Funny, but after changing the oil and filters, the BX23S was purring like a kitten. So much so, I decided to give it its first wash! Pointless, probably, since I will soon be moving a ton of topsoil with it, but for a few minutes, it looks like brand new.
