Tractor
Kubota 4240 HSTC
Been lurking for months. Best tractor forum on the net!

Like some of you, I started out in the late 90's with a small tractor (NH1710 w/fel), put about 400 hours on it and traded for bigger.

Second one was a Kubota 3430 w/fel. Great tractor. Put about 400 hours on it in two years and wanted bigger :)

Traded several months ago for a Kubota 5240. The power from that turbo'd 4 cylinder was awesome. Decided it was more tractor than I really wanted.

Getting old, and cold wet weather kinda pushed me into the decision to trade again.

Here's what I think will be my last tractor. 4240 HSTC with FEL.

The other picture shows my wife's "little truck" that she dearly loves, and the 3430.

Guess you could say that I'm a Kubota fan.

Welcome.

I look forward to your insights from your obvious experience with several different tractors.

Hopefully you have settled on a good fit to your needs.

Talon,
Some of your posts on the HST caused me to give it a second look. Thanks.

The 3430 had GST and I got used to it, and liked it. I bought the 5240, primarily because it is one of the few with GST, felt it would be the same. It wasn't. Seemed to be harder to work and change speeds, and just wasn't comfortable.

Luckily, the local dealer is a good friend, and when I went back and asked to drive the 4240 HSTC, he just gave me that weird look. After the test drive I still wasn't convinced with the HST. He offered to deliver it to my house and let me keep it for the weekend.

It was a nasty, cold, wet weekend and he couldn't have timed it better. Driving it around the property, warm and secure, sealed the deal. The 5240 was on the truck, heading back to him on Monday morning..:)

I've put 15 hours on it in the last couple of weeks and no complaints so far. The only thing I've noticed is using the Stall/Auto DS. If I hit a hill in High range with the rabbit, the turtle won't come on by itself. I just manually do it.

Also decided the Kubota radio was too expensive. Bought one at Best Buy and after reading a thread here on how to install it, was a piece of cake..:)

TNB Rocks.

Great tractor. Gotta love the cab. I plow snow with just a shirt on and still have to slow down the heat. And in the summer on those hot days the air is super for mowing. Welcome aboard.

Had the dealer install a Top-N-Tilt on the 5240. Really liked it, so had him pull it off and mount on the 4240. He couldn't do that, as the levers for the TNT are different on a ROPS model vs the cab model. The new levers should be in this week.

I do like the FEL joy stick where it's mounted in the cab vs the ROPS, and much more than where it was mounted on the 3430.

KitC,

I hope you are as happy with your HST+ as I am -- after making the Auto Throttle adjustments :)

FWIW I use the Stall Guard 100% of the time, but almost never use the Auto DS. With my lower powered L3240, on hills the Auto DS is just too sensitive swapping from Rabbit to Turtle and back way too often. So I use the lever to handle the Turtle/Rabbit swapping at my own pace.
