Hello everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. After many months of reading reviews and looking at and test driving UTVs, I took delivery of a new John Deere Gator XUV on Friday. I got the 620i gas version in the olive green and black colors. I had it narrowed down to this Gator and a Polaris Ranger 500. Both are great machines. I duck hunt with a guide that uses a 6x6 Ranger to transport people to duck blinds and that thing has gone through some incredible places. However, I test drove 2 different Ranger 500s and both vibrated excessively at idle. I do like the higher top end speed of the Ranger but for my purposes, the Gators top speed of 30 mph is all that I need. I thought that I would like the bench seat on the Ranger at first but after driving 2 and sliding across the seat during turns, I decided that the bucket seats on the Gator actually made me feel more stable and are more comfortable.
I am in the erosion control business and will be using this on large construction sites to inspect perimeter silt fence and storm water ponds as well as using it around our property. I do not plan to be hauling heavy loads just primarily riding and hauling the dog and maybe some small cargo so this machine just seemed to suit my needs perfectly.
For those of you that are considering a new UTV, I highly recommend the XUV. I only have a few hours on it so far but the ride is extremely smooth, the idle is nice and quiet, and the fit and finish is near perfect. I carried myself and my wife in the front seats and my oldest son and our big labrador retriever in the bed around our property and up some pretty decent grades and the Gator handled this with confidence. I am still waiting on a few accessories such as the poly roof, windshield and the winch from my dealer. I am planning to get the cargo bed and floor boards Rhino lined this week.
If anyone has any questions about the new Gators, please let me know. After looking at all of the machines including the Rhino, Gator, Mule, Ranger and the Bad Boy electric golf cart, I can say that owning any of these would be a privilege and a joy. I have enjoyed reading this site for the last few weeks and hope to gain more insight and possibly add some insight in the near future.
Thanks.
