Yanmar 1700
Hey all, I am new to this site. I have a Yanmar 1700. I am interested in getting info on this tractor. Looking / researching info on maintenance. My friend RJSharp, has introduced me to this site. He used to have a YM 2000, and had good service out of it. Thanks again!

Ask away what you want to do. Im sure we have done it all here.

I would change hydro, and clean the screen, engine oil and filter, and fuel filters on it if it were mine.

welcome, I'm also a ym1700 owner, the 1700 share the same engine as the ym2000 although has a smaller cyl bore
most folks leave them as they were from factory, maintain them, use them and service them, however I'm one who like to push it to the next level, always thinking of ways to improve upon things, though sometimes I have to improve my improvements,

Welcome! Here's the US showroom brochure for YM240, likely the closest brochure you will find for your 1700.

There's not much to maintain. Oil is any diesel-rated 15w-40, available anywhere. The hydraulic system and transmission share a common sump, about 4 gallons of any modern 'Tractor Fluid' that includes conforming to JD303 as well as more modern specs. If the seller hasn't done it recently you might want to pull and clean the hydraulic 'strainer', likely a triangular plate at the bottom front of the transmission, then install fresh fluid. It's then good for several years.

Use a grease gun and lube fittings under the brake pedals etc. Fuel filter spec is rinse every 50 hours replace @ 300, but most of us just keep an eye out for sediment or water in the bowl and clean as needed - likely a couple of years at least. Aside from maintaining oil level there's only one maintenance item that is important to keep up with: keep the radiator fins clean, hose any mowing chaff out with a garden hose frequently if needed.

Enjoy!

Good call on the fluff thag gets on the radiator. All is made that mistake and learned quickly, if you dont clean it every hour or two you will quickly oveheat in the summer. I have put an old piece of window screen over the front with zip ties and that helps a ton, it just always gets torn off by briars because of the stuff i mow through but it is a worth wile addition of you mow lots of tall fluffly grass.
