Tractor
MF 285
I've waited a long time to have my own farm. It came with a MF 285 but that's more tractor than I need. Looking at LS and Branson utility tractors since those dealers are nearby. Any input is welcome. I have 21 sloping acres. Implements will be FEL, box blade, and cutter. Neighbor takes care of the hay so I won't have to do that.

Good afternoon Tanasigrl and welcome to TBN and this forum. Suggestion - update your user profile and tell where you are located. OK - well, somebody that owned the property before you figured they needed an 85hp tractor. Will you be plowing snow - driveway maintenance - bush hogging - etc, etc. You must have an idea of what you plan on doing - you share this information and we can advise.

I'll update my profile if and when I get internet. Just have my phone for now. I'm in East TN. Previous owner had stopped using the 285 when neighbor started cutting and baling the hay for him. I'm thinking of getting a sub compact with belly mower and a medium sized tractor for cutting barn lot and scraping driveway.

Welcome aboard! By telling us East Tn. I know your a little north and east of my place in Fulton, Ms, so the climate is similar. No 40 below temps and 6 feet of snow.

Buying a tractor for
cutting barn lot and scraping driveway
is pretty darn expensive unless you have a BIG lot and a LONG drive.
What other uses do you envision?
And how much usage?
Do you plan on buying new? Nearly new? Well used?
What's your wrenching skills? (can you dismantle a tractor and reassemble it blindfolded? or are you just able to change oil?)
And give us some idea of price range.

Some people like to buy new, others of us (like me) buy well used and spend lot's on attachments.

Whatever you want we will offer advice. There is a tendency on this board to suggest getting bigger than you think you want. So don't be surprised if someone suggests keep the Massey because you can never have too much tractor.

Plan on selling the MF. I have 21 acres of pasture and hay fields, driveway is 800 ft of gravel. I'm not sure if a subcompact can do all I want to accomplish now and in the future. The ones I've looked at so far are all new. Once I get internet and able to use computer it will be much easier to reply.

Maybe consider keeping the MF for the driveway and other big stuff and get a subcompact for the mowing and other smaller stuff. It is hard to get a tractor that is the right size for all of this.

:welcome: to TBN.
Have you consider trading or selling MF towards new tractor...one that can do it all.
