Craftsman T310
Hello,

My name is Trevor I got out of active duty service about a year ago. I used my Post 9/11 GI-Bill, and now have some free time on my hands. I was using an old I think 1960 Craftsman 2 riding lawn mower. It had cracked axles, skipping manual gears, poped tires on and on. I have been repairing it for years since I constantly moved in the service. I did not bother buying a new one since it was always getting scratched, and dinged up. However now that is all in the past and I purchased a new Craftsman T310 from lowes. I notice their is practically no info on Tuff Torq transmissions when you go to these big box stores. I had 2,000$ to spend and wanted the best I could get that turned out to be the T310 when comparing it to the other models like it. Meaning deck size, tire size, functionality ect. The ones that compared were the John Deere E180 for almost 3,000$ or the Huskqvarna LGT48DXL for 2,800$ I even went to a local John Deere dealer. All the 100 series, S240 and X300 up to the X350 had K46 transmission in them? except those John deeres were near 5,000$ So I said heck 2,000$ large tires and deck with electronics with free shipping sounds great. Now I have specific question about lawn mowers and transmissions. This is who I am and what brought me to this site.

Take care all.

Welcome to the TBN forum Trevor. Glad that you joined.

Thanks for your service. Which branch were you in and how long?

I just gave my SIL my 9 year old Craftsman mower which has the Tuff Torq transmission. There is more than one model and of course the heavy duty one last much longer.

Hello,

I was a Repair and Reclamation Troop, I also did some Isochronol, and flight line. In for 8 years active duty USAF. I Worked on Stratotankers. My old craftsman has no sticker and no stamps I have no clue what was in that one. The new one has a K46 that is the reason I joined. I am trying to contact Barry N on here who has a Craftsman pro 7400. MTD has a parts break down on these with the K58. It is an exact match for my Craftsman T310 that they sell at lowes. The Sears brand is called Pro series 7400, 8400 they came with K58. Well sears here in NC closed down. I would just walk in take a pic of the sticker and leave, and then order it online to put in my T310. BUT for the LIFE of me I cannot get any info. I call 7 Sears on the phone say can you get me the sticker number on your Pro series on the transmission axle. They keep giving me the number under the seat. So I take that number call MTD manufacturer, Tuff Torq ect. No one can tell me what series K58 it is. When you go on Tuff Torq website it has all the K58 but I need to know if its a G,S,R,X ect model. Anyways still no luck but I am still trying. Then I posted about my fan falling off so far it has been a long process.

When you said that your "fan fell off" was it due to the drive belt coming off?

The snap ring and fan was on the ground when I came back. The pulley was still on the shaft. Mind you I was driving it like that for 30 minutes or so. I assume once I started it the snap ring came off and the fan with it. But the belt and pulley were still on the transmission. The fan does occupy about 3-4 inches and the belt does not flex in a pitch/ incline decline position. So it makes sense that it would stay on without the fan and snap ring. So far its fine? it operates with no noise, no lose of power, has torque going up hill I can increase speed. So I guess it was not to much heat or I did not operate it long enough in hot temperatures. But man was it hot when I found out the fan was not on.

I posted in the JD lawn and garden section. I could not find the craftsman section.
