Tractor
1736
Hello, and thank you! Purchased our tractor 1 year ago, Massey Ferguson 1736 mid - size. Purchased as a package, tractor, front bucket, box scraper, rototiller, post hole auger, brush hog mower, 18' 10,000lb trailer.
Just completed the 50 hour service. Very surprised at the cost of the MF filters!!!!!! Was wondering if there are other filter brands available????
Thanks for letting us join the group. And thanks for the help/information.
Donnie

Welcome to TBN.

Yep them O.E filters are like gold when it comes to pricing, I would try cross referencing the M.F number to Wix, Baldwin or something like that, as long as the filter meets or exceeds o.e.m they will not effect your warranty even though sometimes dealers will try to tell you differently.
Went through that with Cummings and I believe it was Baldwin filters back in the late 80s, Baldwin came out ok, Wix was already approved along with Hastings filters.

Thank you!
Place of employment has a grounds repair department. went through the NAPA cross reference catalog and there was nothing. The tractor is a 2017, but i think the engine has been used longer than that. So there should be cross reference filters out there. Hopefully someone has found them!!!???

The engine oil filters are going to be very common and carried in many brands by many suppliers. Do not pay an arm and a leg for those ! Surely NAPA has ones that match in crossover -- do a better search.

Your hydraulic low pressure return filters are a different story. On my MF 2660 (2011 model, older and larger than yours) the O.E. MF filter is over $80 with tax. Nasty. I found a NAPA crossover for the hydraulic filter for about $60 with tax which to me is still crazy high.

For my 2 cents -- I have used NAPA filters on a Massey Harris 1954, a John Deere 4700, a MF 2660, two Kubota B2150s and a Kubota BX2200. I have never EVER seen a problem with a NAPA filter but that is just my experience and not a large sample.

I'm thinking others (who actually own a 1736) will come on here soon and give you leads on 3rd party filters. There have been some threads claiming all sorts of horror stories on off-brand filters. I do not believe most, if any, of them. HOWEVER, there are some good videos out (Messicks maybe?) where they cut 3 or 4 brands of filters apart and show the differences. Also 2 or 3 pricing levels of filters WITHIN a brand. Very instructive. Try You Tube and search on oil filters.
