I just got a new Kyosho Seawind. I have been sailing an Aquacraft "Paradise" RTR for the last year; it is a lot of fun! It is a 26" long boat; excellent beginner setup. I wanted a second boat though, so my son and I can both sail. I got to sail a Seawind a while back, which helped me decide... The Seawind is a larger boat; it is 39"(a 1M race boat)

I have just unpacked this boat. It takes some assembly and painting. I already have a 2nd radio and receiver; I do need to get rudder and sail servo's though.

There is a race June-24 near here(There is a model yacht club in Sacramento). Hopefully I can have it ready to sail, although I don't think I will race; just a shakedown cruise :D

Will post a few pictures once I start assembly ;)

I am envious!:D For the last forty years I've been building a sail boat. Last week I planted the seeds for the trees that would would be proper for boat material!:D

At least you have definite plan. I've been planning on a sailboat since 1976. So far I've decided the sails will be white.

Or maybe blue, or...

RobertN, I hope you enjoy your boat.

I had always thought the RC sailboats looked like fun. Since my son got me the first boat last Fathers Day, I can tell you, they are fun :D

I'd also like to get a real sailboat too. Time and budget has that on hold. Eventually, I would like to get a 21-25' boat, on a trailer. You can find that size boat with a toilet, kitchenette, and sleeping room for 3. I'm actually thinking about selling my old Farmall and buying a boat; I got the Farmall for parades, but have not been in one in two years...

Sounds like fun. I was into RC cars and trucks as a teenager. Never had an RC boat. But the real deal is lots of fun - just ask Boo

Sounds interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of it. Both of it being built, and of it out on the water!!!

Thanks,
Eddie

This is the beginning. So far I have unpacked some stuff, and am in the process of prepping the hull for paint. Like many models, there is left over plastic from the molds that needs trimming.

I hope to paint this weekend.

These pictures give an idea of size. My existing boat is 26" long, and about 4' tall. The new one is 39.3" long, and about 6'2" tall, keel to top of mast.

Geez Robert, I read your first post and was quite confused. A 26' and then a 39' sail boat, need radio etc., I thought you were talking feet. I was already to show you my itty bitty 12' monster called a Topper. After I see the pictures I realize your talking inches. Mines bigger! :D

I've been into RC boats for about 30 years now, started out with gas power but for the last 15 or so I've run the RC sail boats. They sure are alot of fun. :)

Thinking about that. I want to take some lessons out at Lake Natomas though and get a little more educated on boats before deciding.
CSUS Aquatics

And, I have to either sell the Farmall, or find someone who wants to trade for a Farmall, or win the lottery :D

the Kyosho Seawind is a great boat.

Personally i couldnt see spending twice the money for the northwind i have, but there certinally is something to be said about getting what you pay for.

but as you can se many of us northwind 36 owners are makeing them work :D (my thread over on RCuniverse)

RobertN,

If you want to get into full-size sail boats, there's a pretty active catamaran racing scene in your area. There were about 8 Catalina 22s racing up at Scott's Flat (by Nevada City) last weekend, and I'm sure they were envious as the catamaran fleet (myself included) blasted past them.

I do about 8 races a year, from Huntington Lake (near Fresno) all the way to Klamath Lake. But if you get a Hobie there's still plenty of events in the Suckatomato area.

Right now I just have a KYOSHO Fairwind. It sails great and I've had it out in some heavy winds where she was heeled over pretty good...:)

For those of you who have an itch to sail "real" boats vs. RC - google "community boating". We have several groups here in New England that offer the opportunity to sail for real short money. I didn't find a "national" umbrella that they fall under to see where else in the country they may be. We have them in Boston, Lawrence, New Bedford (all MA) & Providence, RI.

I have been really busy on other projects, but have squeezed in a few minutes here and there on the boat. It has hull paint, and some of the deck hardware is going on.

Next up is setting up the radio gear and mounting it.
