know it's not the season, especially here in the midwest, but got a question on the mower deck coming with my new tractor. I like to keep the underdeck clean--usually I clean the underside every few mowings depending on how moist the grass was. I do it primarily because I've found a clean deck works better and gives me a better cut with less clumping.

I've never prepped a deck to make cleaning easier but I have heard some people do things like treat the deck with non-stick substances. I've read some have used Pam, but it seems to me that Pam would wear off fairly quick. I've wondered about some of the new spray car waxes. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had good luck with a particular product for making the deck easier to clean.

Thanks,

John

John, the one thing I do before I put my old Speedex away,is run it through my beds of pine needles and pine cones. It sure helps get rid of alot of wet grass buildup:)

I've tried waxing and spray-ons. Grass always builds up. So I've resorted to scraping the big build-ups off during the mowing season and at the end of the season, I scrape, powerwash, then spray on Rustoleum JD Yellow.

Also, I've found that the Gator blades seem to reduce the large build-ups due to the clippings being finer.

Hey Greg, I've heard people doing that with mulch or fine wood chips as well. Unfortunately I only have a couple pine trees on the property. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks. I was planning on Gator blades to help with clippings since I won't have a grass collector anymore. Nice to know they'll help with keeping the deck cleaner as well!

Per above on Fluid Film.... It is a great product and I use it all the time to lubricate the SCV and the 3-pt hitch and many other things. BUT you will go broke using it on the underside of the mower deck and that's a fact. Been there. Done that!!!
