Mowing new mower wheels

I don't recall anyone mentioning it but when I was at PT today I noticed that the swivel wheels on mower decks and other tools are now solid . Hopefully these will work alot better than the old tubeless ones. I asked Scott for a price on these if I wanted to replace mine, but he said that would come through parts and I forgot to ask him again to call about that again. I plan to put tubes in mine unless anyone out there thinks this is a bad idea, but I only recall good comments about this solution.

When I first used my mower mid way thru one of the wheels came lose and then the other.. I failed to check them before I began. So I got the cans of air and goo and set about trying to fill them.. my time was running out as well it was getting dark and I wouldn't have a chance to mow again for days.. so the goo starts squirting out the side of the tires and I can't get the bead to seat.. grabbed the little air compressor and tried with that.. no good. Well maybe I can mow without the tires.. tried a few feet.. nope nice gouges in the lawn though.. well tried again with the air goo and wow it worked got them both filled and set about mowing in the dark the lights helped for sure.. but since loading them with air goo they are fine.. I was about to go the tube route.. and solid tires.. sounds like the right move..

How much goo did you put in the tire? Even with goo in the tire, they will still deflate when the tire digs in and pops off the rim, then it gets full of dirt and such. If you are going to stay this route, keep max air pressure before you even start to cut.

I filled them full with the goo .. yea I need to remember to check them and keep at full pressure. I used the goo that has compressed air as well.

I filled mine with green slime. It seemed to take care of my problems. 14 says. take the valve stem out, Put the weight on the tire, screw the slime bottle on, then lift the weight off the tire. The slime then just sucks right in there.

Far and away, the best "goo" out there is made by UltraSeal. They sell 2 grades. One is "commercial", generally used at highway speeds, and the other is "bulletproof" for tractors, ATVs, etc.
Gemplers carries both products {HERE}
Gemplers are really good folks, and shipping is lowest I've found, even cheaper than ordering from UltraSeal direct in L.A.

For someone that hasn't bought the brush hog yet, when I bought mine I told them at pt in Tazwell that I wanted mine foam filled which they did for a little extra. I haven't had any problems with the tires on mine, I am glad that I spent the extra at the beginning and saved a lot of trouble and some money later on having to fix flats. This may not work for everyone but it sure has for me.

There has been some variation - progression? - in the small tires from PT. My back tires on the rough-cut mower were filled stock with rubbery foam. Unfortunately, the foam was inside a tube, and not in contact with the wheel. Ultimately the tires rolled off the rims, foam and all. I had new ones put on tubeless with hard foam filling and have a year or so on those with no problem.
The same size wheels and tires, I think, are on the gauge wheels for the snow blade. On those, I had a number of flats until I put slime in. I now keep them pretty hard, and have no problems. They caster, however, so there is less opportunity to roll them off the rims.
I've gone to bulletproof Ultraseal from Gempler for the bar treads I put on last fall. So far so good.

When you say Hard foam, is that like construction foam you spray around doors and windows?

A local shop sent it to another. It is a system touted as particularly for tires. It seems really hard and heavy, so I doubt it's construction foam -- more like dense foam rubber.

When I got mine filled I beleive pt sent them out. It is a hard rubber like they fill mine tires with. I did once try the construction spray in foam on a small cart that you pull behind the tractor. There is a story with that though, the cart wheels when I first got the cart keept going flat so I used a can of fix a flat in it and it worked fine for a while but I beleive it was the fixaflat that caused the rim to rust a big hole in it. When I needed to use the cart I noticed the flat and the hole in the rim and I needed to haul some stuff and at the time I couldn't find a replacement tireand rim so I got a peice of valley tin and put it inside the wheel over the hole in the rim took the valve stem core out and filled the tire with the spray in foam through the valve stem. When I saw how fast it swelled the tire out I thought I was going to have to duck for cover. The tire held up long enough for me to haul what I needed to haul and was still hard when the tires and rims that I ordered came in to replace it. I wished I had keept on using it to see how long it would have held up but too late now I threw it away. I wouldn't advise anyone to do that on a good rim but for that job it held up and keept my attention every load I hauled I'd look at it with amazement.
