John Deere 820
Hey all! I just purchased an unknown year 820 at auction online w 2300 hours by the meter. I pick it up this Saturday. It is supposed to run "good", rubber looks alright, and has working lights.

I have a little childhood tractor experience with an old Kubota l260. The owners manual has not arrived yet, but would like to get a head start on being ready for basic maintenance. Not many you tube videos on this tractor.

1) are there comparable models (1020, etc) that I could look to to get an idea of where everything is?
2) any advice on evaluating the fuel system? hydraulic system?
3) it looks like a solid tractor, but are there any problem spots?

Thanks Everyone!

PS Will post photos when I pick it up!

Welcome to TBN
JD 1020 & 820 utility tractors are very similar with 2 exceptions. 820 has open center hyd's & was built in Mannheim,Germany & 1020 has closed center hyd's & was built in Dubuque,Ia. I sold both models when they were BRAND spanking new. Majority of 820's sold never had to be returned to dealership for warranty repairs. Does your tractor have power steering because the majority 820's sold where I worked had manual steering.

I like the horizonal exhaust. I don't know it it's rare or not, but I do not see many. 25 years ago when I bought my 2030, I really wanted an 820/830 or 1520/1530, but the few I found for sale, sellers wanted $10K. They said EVERYBODY wants them so they can, and will, get their price. I paid $8K for my 2030 without the loader it now has on it.

Thanks for the reply! It cranked up and rolled onto the uhaul trailer after a jump. The steering seems to be manual.

Very nice! Can't say I'm too fussy about the aftermarket seat.

Swap out the coolant for new premixed . Drain flush and fill the hydraulic system with Hy-Gard .
