Hello, I'm a new member here, but I've been reading for a little while. I bought a used 2004 Branson 3510 with 232 hours after reading about the good reviews here. It will be delivered tomorrow. It looks small. I was wondering if it would be powerful enough to run a square baler? My father run this baler with a old Farmall 350 Diesel. It is a heavier Tractor, but the HP is about the same.

The Branson PTO has two speeds. What is run on the high speed PTO?

I am sure I will have many more questions as I get use to the Branson.

Thanks in Advance.

Good luck with your new toy, then again Branson's dont require much luck ;)
Dont have a clue about the baler but I have been known to run my
4720 in the 1000rpm range at about 1/2 throttle while doing lite bush hogging and
or cutting grass.
I have a 5ft bush hog and a 6 ft finish mower, my 4720 has plenty of
power to run these at about 1500rpm's which is close to the 540 range.

Congratulations on the new (to you) tractor. I also cannot tell you whether or not you can run a square baler, but I imagine that horsepower is horsepower. If the horsepower at the PTO of the Branson is comparable to the Farmall, then I would say you have a good chance of being able to run it. I was told by my dealer that there were not many implements that would be run at the 1000 RPM PTO speed. I've never had mine out of 540, but all I run with it is my rotary cutter.
I hope you enjoy your tractor, they are built pretty tough.

Congrats on the purchase!

On my 3510i the "1000 RPM" setting is referred to as the 540E (for economy) setting. I've used it for light brush-hogging, as the 540 PTO speed is met at only 1700 RPMs vs. 2500-2600 on the "normal setting."

Saves fuel if you don't need the engine muscle...

As for the baler - I Couldn't tell you...

Good Luck!

Thanks for clearing up the PTO speeds. Makes sense.
What about a Roll Bale Spear to fit the FEL. Seams I read here that if it has the Branson hookup it will require the Branson Spear. Is that correct?

i've square bayled a lot of hay with a ford 3000 and i own a 3510i now. i think the branson would do alright on flat fields , but it would worry me on hill-sides. i had the back wheels spred out on my ford that made it alot more stable. a square bayler can shake you up quite a bit. most of the fields i mowed and bayled are quite steep. i'm in central kentucky. how hilly is it where you are?

Branson has their own hookup or you can order the Branson FEL with skid steer. I have the Branson BL10A loader and a dealer quoted me a bit over 500.00 for the Branson spear. I had a welder that makes bale spears make a couple of brackets that fit the Branson hookup and weld those to his bale spear frame and PRESTO--works perfectly for about 175.00 less. :)

Ace,
Yeah, $500 sounds pricey for the spear. I know a good welder so I may have to try that route. I have a Branson FEL, so it probably requires their spear.

If you have the BL10S loader it will accept the same attachments as a skid steer, BL10A loaders are the ones that take Branson implements.
