Howdy. New to tractors and picked up what appears to be an early body 2810 that's been sitting for quite a while in a field. SN on frame appears to be an "S" model. I can't get to the tag on the engine just yet. Previous owner said it started, but was making a knocking sound, so I hope it's maybe an injector. Filled up radiator, aired up tires, checked oil level, fuel in glass bowl but it won't crank. I can bypass the switch across the starter, but it just spins but I don't hear it trying to engage the flywheel. This looks like it was a really good tractor new, I expect it to have issues, but my concern is parts. I bought it knowing it would need some work, but I am starting to think parts are going to be an issue......
I was able to get the front diff to unlock, but now the rear wheels are locked and I have it in neutral. The parking brake lever is not on, so it's prob some lever I am missing. I am not familiar with tractors, I needed something small to pull boats and jet skis around the property without tearing up my small riding lawn mower. So for under $500, I am hoping that this is not a wasted project. I've been browsing the forums, trying to research things before I I ask the community.
So my first question is, should I just scrap it out if it's indeed an engine problem (rings/piston/ead)? I pick it up tomorrow if I can get the rear wheels to unlock, otherwise I won't be able to get it on a trailer. I will post pics as soon as I have it home.
Thanks!
