Just picked it up Wed. Changed the oil & filter, plugs, and greased it up. I have a couple of questions though..
I noticed back on the side-part of the hydro tranny housing there is what looks to be a spin-on type oil filter which I assume is for the tranny. I'd like to replace it if I can bit am wondering would fluid spill out & if so how would I put in back in? I believe these are sealed units which means there's no way to add fluid.
Also, tried taking off the air filter housing by removing the wing nut on the top but I can't get it off. The metal top spins around easily enough but it won't come off. I don't want to force it as there may something else holding it down. Any ideas?
Finally, the starter sometimes spins a bit before starting so I'd like to clean it up and maybe lube it around the part the goes up & down that engages the flywheel gear (or whatever it's called). Do I simply remove the bolts around the engine shroud and starter and lift it out? I'm not overly mechanical like most of you guys but I do want to try it myself and learn how to do things.
The engine is strong, tranny seems fine & it cuts great so I'm glad I bought. Got a very fair deal from the orig owner. Tires are good as well w/no leaks!
Looking forward to learning more and more from this great forum.
Thanks!
