Just bought tractor from friend, his father had it for several years before he passed. The boys got it and it has sit for over a year. The ign switch went bad and they tried to replace it,but had it missed wired. When you press the clutch it engaged starter,in turn it ground the gears on starter:eek: so I now need correct switch and a starter.Man are these starters high, had figured 200 on getting her going again, changing fluids, filters etc.
Gave 2300 for tractor and 5 pieces of equipment(disk, tiller, bushhog, box blade and finish mower),has 866 hrs, never been repainted, tin looks good, rear tires(tufh) about 2 yr old, front may be org tires, needs decomp cable replaced.
Was it worth the money or did I get stuck?
also read on here that a jd 850 starter will work?

I assume you're either joking or you have never priced diesel starters. $160 plus a core charge is very inexpensive for a rebuilt diesel starter; $245 for a new one is equally good. JD lists a remanfactured starter for an 850 at $384.29.

For $2300 with all those implements you did good.

Check this out: That 15 tooth starter gear may be a standard Hitachi part, also used on a lot of small Japanese cars. A starter/alternator rebuild shop might have the gear at reasonable cost.

And following is the text of an ebay auction I copied a couple of years ago. This may suggest a starter from a different application that is cheaper if you buy it from that source. (But this auction's starter was $235!).

My YM240 (twin to your YM2000) had its starter replaced with the Nippon Denso reduction-gear starter described below. This might be a alternate source, at a better price, for what you need.

Check my data before relying on it, and get return privileges, before trying this!!!

Please report back and tell us how this turned out.

But you'll probably find that buying the correct rebuilt starter from LMTC etc is the simplest way to get your Yanmar running.

Hazer, W/all the other stuff you got , Supper deal, my opinion? Now go get you a svc-manual&parts manual w/good electrical dwgs.straighten that elec. stuff out. I take it you pulled starter? bendix(gear)bad? does not always mean new starter? Good quality no/BS local starter shop will help alot. The other stuff cable, ect is minor. You came to the right place. Parts dealers (ALL SEEM TOP NOTCH) hang out here and forum(will dog) weeds out bad parts dealers. They will respond to this post most likely, their friendly service is 10x my local dealers. You are not stuck for sure! your'e just getting started, thats all. Enjoy your new tractor. Welcome:)

Welcome Hazer36,
You did good. I also have a 2000B and love it. I gave $2250 for mine about 3 years ago with no implements.
