Power Trac 422
As of two weeks ago I purchased a new Power Trac 422 from the factory in Tazwell. I purchased the 48'' finish mower, 48'' brush cutter, 60'' snow blade and the light material bucket. To date I have used the tractor with 48'' finish mower and brush cutter for 6 hours without any problems. This is a workhorse of a machine. I will try to keep an up to date account of my experiences throughout ownership. I reviewed threads in this forum for many hours before making my final decision to purchase. Thanks for all the informative posts.

I wanted to follow up on my initial post with a review of how my pt422 is doing. I currently have 11 hours on the machine. 8 hours were used mowing, 2 hours brushcutting and 1 hour completing loader work. I have been impressed with the machine thus far though I am prepared for problems down the road. The only possible issues I see in the future is the fact that it is cold starting but I think I have found the perfect position for the throttle and choke for it to start fairly easy. I have had the rear wheels of the finish mower come off a couple of times but the last time I mowed I didn't have an issue. I was concerned with the operating temps of the hydraulic system but with a laser temp gun I found them to be around 180 degrees. This to my understanding is normal for hydraulic systems. I did find out that if you run out of gas on a slope you should be ready to apply the parking brake because you will free wheel. Overall I have been impressed with the capabilities of this machine.

Good to hear. One thing several people have done (myself included) was after the break-in period of your engine, switch to synthetic engine oil. It may (or may not) help with cold weather starting.

Also, keep an eye on your hydraulic cooler fan. They have been known to fail. I just put my hand over it every hour or so to make sure its still turning. I used to have an orange ribbon tied to it. I could see it blowing up when the fan was on. Maybe I'll tie another one on there. If you go through heavy brush, sticks can get into the fan and cause it to jam as well, so just keep an eye on it.

Power Trac "flair"! Good idea. I think I'll tie several on there to make it look like the after-burner kicked in!
