I was given a John Deere L100 17 hp riding mower by my neighbor. The rear axle housing has broken in half, this is my next project to repair this mower and use it to mow my lawn. (my 94 STX38 is very tired). I thought it would be nice to post some pictures of the process in case anyone else has run into this problem. I removed a few bolts tonight to remove begin removing the rear end.

I think you might be better off putting the time/money into the STX38....

I'm looking for a replacement trans-axle, it is a spicer 4360-149 AM131576, I found a new one on ebay for 119$, but I don't want to put that much money into this project. Plus it is a good excuse to get a welder, a tool I have wanted to have for years. (to repair the tear in the frame that bolts to the trans-axle)

Looks like some pieces to a riding mower. I saw a new one at Walmart today for $999.
