2011 LS R4041EZ - 2014 Bad Boy CZT Elite - 1948 Ford 8N
Called the dealership (Sandy Lake) toady to get a recent quote on an R4041 for the bank. He stated that the tractor has 3 transmission options: standard shuttle EZ shift and hydro. He quoted me a price on the shuttle of 18990.00 plus tax for a total of 20129.00 I went to the credit union an got my check for 20000.00 He called back a bit later and said that the factory in North Carolina did not have any shuttle R4041's available for 5 weeks or so but did have some with the EZ trans. He told me he would work some numbers or I could wait the 5 weeks. I told him I needed the tractor soon and to crunch some numbers. He called back a short time later and after some discussion I was able to buy the R4041 for 20000.00 out the door. I think I did OK with that deal. Fair for both ends.

On a separate note.. LS finally updated their website with the new models

What's up with the EZ? I didn't know they existed. Is it a power reverser or a power shift type transmission?

I looked at the Boomer 40 (hydrostatic) on a dealers lot and an LS R4010 (gear drive) on another dealers lot. They are a lot bigger than the R3039. I looked at the engines on the other LS tractors on the lot, (R3039, U5030 and J2020H), and they all had Mitsubishi on them. The R4041 and Boomer 40, (same tractor about), had made by LS on the engine. Maybe they just got their engines OEM or something from Mitsubishi anyone know?

The EZ trans is a power type / push button trans that does not require clutching to change gears. I think another TBN member has one too. Im curious to see axactly how it works when I take delivery in a week or so.

That would be a powershift transmission. Pretty cool.

I didnt know they made a powershift transmission, now I may have to trade in my P7010 for less HP and PS, maybe not. I still like my shuttle shift

Gary,
Not sure how the PS is setup on the LS it's probably like the Glide Shift Transmission (GST) for Kubota. The newer high end PS transmissions have a lot of electronics but the old ones and some of the new ones are all mechanical. My dad has a Case tractor that has almost no electronics on it and is a PS. It even automatically shifts to first, (on the PS), when you push in the clutch and then will autoshift up to where you were at after you let it out. That's pretty cool to me. Anyway, I bet he PS on the LS is all mechanical.

I have no problem with the shuttle shift. There comes a point when
you must ask yourself how easy do I need things to be.
Had a FEL on a old Massey-Harris tractor that I ran for hours at
a time day after day. After a while a person gets very good at changing directions
while still rolling, but it was much easier than a shovel.
The shuttle is easy enough for me.

I have a 933 CAT traxcavator that you have to come to a complete stop to shift in reverse or you have to shut it down. It's old and it works fine.

My dad used to have a IH 584, (or older but same model), that he mowed with. Once he got the Case he couldn't imagine going to something that didn't have a PS or HST. When he bought his Kubota it had to have a HST. The PS really makes a difference in field work around here. We have a lot of hills and small irregular shaped fields so if you can change speeds easily you do either because your going up or down a hill or around a sharp corner. My largest field is about 10 acres and I rarely use the PS on it as it's relatively flat too. My brother in law uses an old Case 1070 and he likes it cause you just get in and go but he's in flat ground with big fields too. If your doing loader work in an enclosed area I don't know if it makes much difference but my current tractor, (with an Iveco engine :) ), and with my previous tractor also you could be going forward in one gear and when you hydraulicly clutched to go into reverse it could go into a different gear. So faster forward slower backward automatically. I like that feature.

Using the throttle to control speed doesn't always workd because your discbine, sprayer, baler, etc. works better at a certain PTO RPM. So, the PS works good for that too.

you just press the button on the shift knob, and it engages the clutch for you, shift gears, let go of button, and keep on movin...takes a bit of getting used to...but works real well.

I love the powershift on my old 1984 Yanmar 4220D. I can shift it reverse, neutral, 1,2 & 3 without clutching. It has 4 ranges in each of those patterns and I can usually find a range that does most of the work in one range. It is all mechanical linkage to a hydraulic actuated clutch so it shifts seemlessly. I wish someone would do that for modern tractors without all the darn electronics. My 26 year old tractor still works fine, but you do have to watch what you are doing. One day I was bushhogging and was coming up on this tall patch of weeds and thought I was in 2nd gear but was actually in 1st, I downshifted to slow down and it slowed down rather abruptly when it shifted into reverse. I nearly went over the steering wheel, but it was smooth shift and the tires just started spinning like crazy in reverse. The only other time I stopped that quick was when I ran into a pot hole and buried my FEL into the dirt when the front tires ran off in this deep pot hole. That was another sudden stop that almost put me over the steering wheel. I guess there is some good in having an operators platform designed for midgets, it makes in nigh impossible to fall off.
