Unbelievable! Why are we throwing money at a company who already has a very healthy profit. This is insane, we're going to end up digging our own grave with this whole thing. The government won't be able to stop with the handouts until they bankrupt all of us.

FDIC: Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program

Here is alink to FDIC explaining the Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program. There is a list of Banks who have opted out, if you have Excel you can veiw it or download it, you may also reconize your own bank listed. they probaly could explain it better than I. I am sure this will have an effect on what interest rates are offered by manufactures in the coming year. Also other manufactures may be using a institution that may have opted in and are getting the same deal. Not sure on that.

The best I can tell if I were an institution that had debt that may be questionable or considered high risk I wanted to sell, I wouldn't opt out. If debt was was built on solid fundimentals and secure on its own merrit, I would opt out. When you opt in, the FDIC backs it, which I believe makes it worth more on the open market. If I were to buy the debt as an investment and it was backed by the FDIC it would eliminate most of the risk for the investor, but not the taxpayer who is is backing it.

Since I don't have a law degree, all of this is just how I have interpeted it.
I am not sure the Fed has learned what got us here. Encouraging more debt maybe isn't a good thing? Just my thoughts.

I agree. If Japanese leaders pulled this kind of stunt with their industries the U.S. would be slapping all sorts of trade barriers to "level the playing field."
