Just got a new TAG ripper for my JD 110. Was testing it out today on some stump roots.
It works much better than a bucket, and disturbs a lot less dirt. I can see it making a good trencher, for a small line. Also got to pick some rocks out with it too.

Need to make a stand for it, so it's easier to put on. Just one more thing to do!!

Wonder how that would work with a thumb for picking up stumps, etc? Give us some more details about where, $, etc. Thanks!

As soon as I get a thumb, I'll let you know :D. It's on my list!!

Picked it up at my local JD dealer, was right about $850

Ray,

Do you have any problem finding the roots with the tooth? I've heard complaints that it breaks a few roots OK, but then you can't see a thing since it's chewing dirt, not moving it and the job becomes hard to finish.

Is that your experience or have you take out stumps with just the ripper?

North Country,
I just got the ripper Friday, and I took out a good sized Hackberry stump next to the house. I would say that what you heard is correct. I started with the ripper, but then you need to move dirt. Put the bucket back on, and dug a while. I think a person will need both most of the time. Maybe a smaller stump would come out with the ripper alone. Here is a pic of the stump; I had about a 10 ft diameter hole, maybe 5 foot deep. Hard to see scale in the pic, but that's a 20 inch bucket pulling the top of the stump over. Please don't ask how much time it took

Wow. That's more than I expected but that looks like a monster and would be just right for some things. If you get that thumb it should really help. I think you could really take out some stumps with that ripper and a thumb.
