Rural King RK74
First post here folks, but I have relied on much throughout this forum over the past few years, so I thought I'd give back by sharing my experience so far (and that going forward) with my new RK74.

I had wanted to purchase a larger tractor for some time, to take care of my new homestead, and researched the competition in the 70hp or so class for a few months, which includes the likes of the Kubota M7060, the JD 5 series, and the Case/NH equivalents. The RK74 was the last that I put much thought to, but it had caught my eye a a few times upon visiting several Rural King stores. Well after spending an afternoon at my local Rural King, and a night thinking it over, I determined that it was the best tractor for me in terms of pricing, value, options, capabilities, etc.

Long story short, I purchased the RK74 with the front loader, pallet forks, and a rear 84" tiller. My local Rural King made the purchase painless, a big thumbs up to Vince! Finding the tractor to be a real treat for many reasons, but very much like the cab (only wish it had a buddy seat) and the loader.

With only a handful of hours on the clock, I put it to work unloading my log cabin kit from a semi trailer. Popped the bucket off quickly using the skid steer quick attack, and connected up the pallet forks. Delivered from high in the Rockies, the small log cabin was packaged into six bundles, with the average weight being approx 2500 pounds, and the heaviest weighing approx 3000 pounds. I'll just say this, between the loaded tires and the tiller on the back, all for rear counter weight, the RK74 found the unloading to be easy peasy - no issues lifting that weight, even at near full loader height, or transporting the bundles of 6-24 foot logs up a long gravel driveway to my building site. It was very stable, had plenty of lifting power, and provided the perfect feeling of money well spent.

Overall I am quite excited about putting this tractor to work on my big acreage property - mowing (will get a new 10 foot plus rotary mower in the spring), plowing snow, taking care of a half mile driveway, and all sorts of other farm and maintenance tasks.

Thank you for letting me share, and I will certainly have more to write up as my seat time increases.

Some quick pics below for your viewing pleasure.

Good day now.

That's a sweet ride - looks like it was perfect weather in which to own a cab tractor! Where are you located?
I think you're the first one I've seen posting on TBN with the RK74. That makes you special :) Please share your experiences with us - both the good and not-so-good - so we can learn from you.
Thanks!

Will certainly keep sharing all that I do with it.

Located in central Ohio, and of course this time of year here can be pleasantly cold, or rainy snowy cold, and unfortunately it was the latter during unloading day, but fortunately I was toasty inside the cab :)

Welcome to you, and congrats! I've got the RK-55 and couldn't be happier. I'm just east of town...the other side of Hebron/Heath. I also live on wooded acreage in a log home. Long commute into town each day, but with amazingly beautiful views. Wouldn't change a thing. Would love to see pictures as the cabin goes up!

I have my eyes on one also. Just might sell my 55 shuttle cab and pull the trigger.

Hello neighbor! I will post some pics as the cabin comes to life. Could not agree more on the beautiful scenery and views around this area. We are building on a hilltop and can see for miles in several directions.

It is quite the tractor, I will say that. Large enough to do most things, but not so large that it is restricted to agricultural/field use only.

Looks like a fine machine.
Too big for my use, but I sure would not mind having one.

Welcome, Log Cabin owner here as well. I have the RK55SC. Look forward to seeing the progress on your place, and progress with your new toy. :welcome:

We are building on a hilltop
I like taking the high ground too. We used to live next door, which is a couple hundred feet down the road in the "holler". The difference in sunlight exposure makes a world of difference on my wife's (and my) mental health - especially on this day, the shortest of the year.

Got a little mud on the tires today. Put a couple hours on big red tearing down a big dirt pile that came about from parts of the driveway being cut in and the septic system being installed.

No issues with a full loader full of wet clay soil and field rocks. Went around the property checking on things, and found the stability on hills to be great as well.

Smiling ear to ear so far.

Great weekend to you folks!

Congrats - looks very nice!

I have seen them at our local RK store - they look really impressive ... however, I would prefer HST

That is one awesome looking tractor. Is the bucket level? J/k.

I've seen the issues some of you have had with your buckets, but yes mine appears to be all good.

Alrighty folks, this RK74 is working out very nicely. Have close to 30 hours on the ticker now, and a bunch more are planned over the coming week as I move 22 ton worth of 1-2 foot boulders onto a hillside near my driveway, put in 40 new fence posts, and finish hauling a bunch of oak logs up to the hilltop.

The loader is very strong and the tractor always feels planted and sure footed. The RK tiller did a fine job turning the soil for my food plot planting later this year.

The Deutz fired up with no issues at 12 degrees the other morning, just a few seconds on the ole glow plugs. Starting to get a lot colder around these parts now - we were getting a real treat with the warmer weather until just recently.

A couple snapshots for your viewing pleasure.

Looks like a nice tractor, when you are running that tiller, adjust the top link so the tiller sits level in the ground.

That's the position it's suppose to be in when running.
