Looked long and hard and decided on the RTV (must admit I am a bit partial to orange). Since the RTV will be used both on and off premises, I know that you have to have an insurance policy that covers it for such useage. Called Progressive and was told it was a prohibitive vehicle, they would not insure it! Asked if they would insure a Mule, Gator or Ranger and she said yes. Cannot understand this for the life of me. I have my Polaris 500ATP insured with them and it is alot more dangerous to operate. Since I am an insurance agent, I have delved into this with my Progressive marketing rep. We will see how it goes.

My guess is that the RTV900 being a fairly new machine - at least compared to the other RTV's you listed - hasn't been coded in their system as a utility vehicle yet. Probably when they input "Kubota" it comes up as a tractor or some other piece of construction equipment.

How many HP and approx what does a RTV cost? I was poking around the net and found these:

My homeowners ins covers mine on my property and my tractors also if I am on the highway. When I am on someone elses property their ins covers me. Least that is what he told me. Hope I never have to find out.

I would check into that further Deerlope. Our home policy does not cover our tractors with regard to liability on the road. That is only covered under a separate farm policy. I have never heard of another person's insurance policy covering you on their property. I'm pretty sure that is not correct. I may be totally wrong but I know our policies do not work that way.

Another thing to remember is that most policies only cover for theft. If you damage the equipment it won't pay unless you have a separate policy for it.

Deerlope, when you say your agent says you are covered when on someone else's property (by their liabilty insurance), could he be speaking of liability coverage regarding damage to your machine or you because of his negligence (however broadly interpreted!?)?

I'd bet the neighbor's carrier would give you a hard time unless what happened was clearly due to neighbor's negligence.

Insurance is a sore subject with me. We pay a lot between homeowners, auto, business, etc. With our business being restaurant, we pay a lot and frequently have to change carriers due to arbitrary drops, despite a good record. There's more, but this is not the thread for it.

I have my RTV covered under my auto insurance with State Farm. It is considered a vehicle and comes with all the same coverages as my car. Best of all it is only $9.00 a month.

My agent is a farmer and I mean big time. Ins is just a side line for him and he has assured me that this is the way his equipment is covered. I have had State Farm agents refer me to this guy because his company is able to do thing a little different.
