New Ruger 57 pistol ..

I see Ruger just released the model 57 auto 5.7X 28.Looks like a fun pistol to shoot.Ammo is a little salty price wise. Ruger® Firearms Ordered one from my dealer yesterday about a 4 week wait.

As per the typical metric designation of cartridges it is the length of the empty case in millimeters. Example 9x19 7.62x39 7.62x51 5.56x45 7.62x63

First one is what we call the 9 mm Luger, second is the Kalashnikov round for AK-47 third is what we call 308 Winchester, 4th is well 5.56 for your AR15 sometimes called .223 Remington, but not really. and the last one is the great old round that we call the 30-06 Springfield. Of course there are many many more.

That metric designation is pretty descriptive isn't it? Much better description than the absolutely stupid names we give for cartridges over here that tell you NOTHING about the size of the case and you get no concept of the overall power of the cartridge. Example 7.62x51 vs. 7.62x63. Do you get the impression that the x63 cartridge having more case capacity, might be a bit more powerful? And yes the 30-06 Springfield is generally a bit more powerful than the 308 Winchester. About 200 fps faster for a given weight of bullet. Yes it is all relative, but as you know, I am a proponent of the metric system. Because it is a logical system, and I am a logical guy!.
