I am a first time tractor owner. I just purchased a Satoh Buck S-470D tractor ($2,500). It looks in great shape to me (without any experience) and has 500 hours on it. We do have the owners manual. We plan on draining and replacing all the fluids and filters (not knowing if the 400 hr maintenance was completed and thanks to the person who posted the NAPA filter numbers!!). Please let me know if there are any helpful tips or warnings for this tractor. Should I try this myself or would it make sense to take it to a shop for a tune up or just change the fluids/filters and don't mess with a good thing? The web site has already provided lots of information. Thanks for all of your postings out there.
Our main purpose will be to brush hog trails and some small fields and food plots as well as till and plant the food plots on 270 acres (only 15 acres of high meadows). We have steep hilly rocky terrain (200 ft of relief)
I plan on purchasing a 4' brush hog (any tips?) and would like to get some attachment for planting food plots etc. Does anyone have recommendations on what gets the most utility (plow/disk/tiller) or do I need all 3? and what size and any tips on operating with these attachment and what not to do for a first timer!! It did come with a John Deer reversible blade and two front weights.
I heard about someone's 470 rolling. An acquaintance mentioned that he used some type of level that you stick on the dash and it indicates when you are getting close to a tipping point. (what are these called??) I also heard from a few folks about their tractors "getting away from them" on hills. Any slope operating strategies would be appreciated.
Several of the grease boots(??) at the joints look broken. Are these easy to get replacements for? The rubber boot at the bottom of the gear shift is missing. Are these available?
The manual also says that it won't start without the clutch depressed (but this one does). I found a wire disconnected on the left side could that just have been disconnected or are these switches just a pain and most people disconnect?
Thanks
The new guy
