FINALLY, this appears to be happening (knock on wood - long story)

Hi all,

Lots of questions, mostly about ventilation.

I am getting ready to build a 57 w x 42 d x 12 swh shop on my farm.

Drained, waterproofed and insulated footers

Gravel, vapor barrier, slab

I am using 6/12 attic trusses with a 12 wide bonus room.

I plan to batt insulate between the floor and ceiling below (blocking between the trusses just below knee wall), batt insulate walls (with tyvek or bubble on back side of knee walls).

Above occupied space drywall, batt between top chord, bubble wrap, osb, barrier, silver galvalume roofing + blocking between top chord.

Also plan to bubble wrap ends of bonus room + as much of first level as I have material to do

Rest of roof just osb, vapor barrier and metal roof.

Metal ceiling in space below with batt or blown in between bottom chord in un-occupied parts of attic.

12 overhang with soffit vents.

Now, here are the questions (in addition to thoughts about above).

I have looked at ridge vents (that can be closed during the winter), corrugated plastic ridge vent (that goes under ridge cap) and gable end vents (that can be closed)

In my mind it would be ideal during the summer to have a couple of open vents (with fans?) in the ceiling of the shop space below, into the unoccupied attic space and out the ridge or gable ends.

This would seem to help cool / vent the shop area and reduce the work load of the A/C in the bonus room above.

Thoughts on this approach?

What do you recommend for barrier between OSB and metal? I was planning on DuPont roofliner but was curious if any of you had other recommendations.

Any "cheaper" outlets for the blue board to use to insulate the footer?

I plan to insulate the 1st level walls with batt or maybe rigid yellow foam + batt.

Once I run out of bubble wrap should I put vapor barrier under wall metal?

Thanks a bunch!

I don't know. LOL

Likely heatpump + woodstove down, mini-split up (with A/C)

Between the osb and metal we have always used tar paper. Worked for us in the past

the contractor has included tar paper, but I was looking to upgrade to something a little tougher.

Why not go with closed cell spray foam? With it you get the best insulation possible, vapor barrier and added structural integrity to your shop. For your interior walls that have heated space use open cell. I'm in Texas with the worst heat I can remember right now and this system is working great.

I may look into it but all indications are that it will be cost prohibitive for me
