Kubota L3830HST
On a trip to WallyMart the other day, I was surprised to see Rotella-T 10-30 oil on the shelf next to the 15-40. Our L3830 owner's manual calls for 10-30 oil, and the only place I was able to get it was the Kubota dealer, Kubota brand oil. Even the local auto parts stores only had diesel oil in the 15-40 variety. Actually, I have used the Rotella 15-40 in the summer, but I thought I should use the the 10-30 in the winter.
I know I could have posted this in the lubricants section, but it's particular to our Kubota. I don't know what weight other brands and models call for. I've always used 15-40 in our old Kubota.

You might check on the diesel specs for R 10-30 I have been told this grade is not diesel grade. you might inquire at their site. bb

I never knew this. I just assumed all diesel engines used 15w40. do u think this is bad for my Kubota?

Rotella T 10W/30 is a diesel engine oil and meets all current API spec's for diesel engines.

It will be fine to use Kubota. Some use 10W/30, others use 15W/40. If it calls for 10W/30 in the manual in your temperature range then that is what I would use.

Kubota generally recommends 10w30 in its manuals and for most of us it is impossible to find. I looked at Walmart, auto parts stores, TSC, Northern Tool, etc. 15w40 is the most common weight available. This has been discussed a lot. General concensus is 15w40 is just fine and Kubota even sells a Kubota branded 15w40.

Oil for diesels come in a variety of grades. In Canada Petro Canada actually produces a 0W30 oil with all of the diesel specs. As was indicated 10W30 is not uncommon.

The colder the temperature the better the lower grades.

Some engine manufacturers had a sliding scale for the use of the various grades.

I saw a test of the different grades each brought down to -10 - then they poured the various oils out of the container. 0W30 had poured a substantial amount of oil in a minute, 15W40 was still in the formation of a droplet still at the pour spout - none of the oil had started to pour.

The demo was what happened at start up of an engine at that temperature. Since then I have always used the lower grades in the colder weather.

I also just found the Rotella 10-30 at Wal-Mart so figured they discovered a lot of diesel owners were looking for it. Hope they keep it stocked.

I'm running the 5W 40 SYN Rotella in my BX. I don't think you can find a better oil for it.
