Well...I shoulda seen it coming

When they delivered it last Thursday it kept dying out when no one was in the seat and the brake was set and in neutral. The thing would die and the beeper would beep

About 8 or 9 times. :smiley_aafz:

The dealer's delivery guy was on the phone to their service and could not guess what was up.

If you stood next to it and it started to die, you could jiggle the shift lever (for Hi - LO- Med) and it would stay running. But if you were not near it it would die altogether.

Then after 15 minutes of this it stayed running and idling. The service dept guy was convinced that when they washed it up for delivery, it was possible that the neutral safety switch plug / wire may have either gotten water in it or came loose from water sprayed near it. The switches plug was checked and re-seated to make sure it was on.

note: it did not die if in gear idling with someone in the seat

So I made a notation on the delivery paperwork that it kept dying at idle but was running when the delivery driver left.

It stayed idling fine for about 30 minutes when I drove it home and parked it that day.

Anyways, it has been raining so much here that I could not get out and play with it much.

First time I got any seat times was back on the 29th (this past Wednesday) and it it died once when I was off it, but only once. I thought that could have been me not setting something right, so I sort of let it go.

Today I used it again and twice I got off the seat after setting the brake and making sure it was in neutral and then walked to look at whatever it was I wanted to look at and both times it bobbled and died and the safety beeper started beeping.

Double :smiley_aafz: :smiley_aafz:

I had to jiggle the shifter around and make doubly sure it was in neutral and it would start.

So I call the dealer and explain it. Just so happened that their truck was in town as we spoke and they wanted to come and pick it up.

So, it is now on it's way back yo them.

They only deliver this way when they get enough on the truck to pay for the delivery expenses, so it may be gone for a week or so.

That does not make me happy, but us little guys are always the loser in these scenerios.

I just hope this in't a sign of this thing being a lemon or junker. Maybe it was made on a Monday morning?

I wonder if they prorate the 2 year warranty and take into mind that :

A - I bought and paid for it but they did not deliver for a week....(1 week off the warranty ) without me even using it

B- It will be another week I cannot use it....so that is another week off the warranty

(yes, I know they do not)

I better stop typing now cuz I am starting to think about it and steam and I may type something I will regret

Not sure how you figure you lose when the dealer picks the machine up to fix it. It's a tractor. Once the dealer cleans up the problem, it will probably not affect you again. Two years is a good warranty. Over the course of a couple of years, it would shock me if a small problem like this didn't pop up once or more. This is why the manufacturer offers two years warranty. They stand behind a good product and assure you they will take care of any manufacturing defects. With manufacturing today, with multiple suppliers and sophisticated systems, a new machine may show a problem or two. Within two years, those problems should all be easily addressed. I don't think you have anything to be concerned about. It always sucks when something like this happens, but a two year warranty? Count your blessings.

A good trouble shooter will find the problem pretty quickly, probably before coffee break. Thats why they get the big bucks. If you get it back in a week, you're doing good.

Well Yooper. sry you had the problem. But the good side is you won't have to worry about your wife wanting to mow some grass. (Iknow a sick sense of humor). You will get it back and love it as much as you did last week.:thumbsup:

I am hoping the phone rings anytime now and they say it is on the way back here.

But I know they need to troubleshoot and then maybe order a part and then fix / install and then....maybe after all that , they will deliver it back

So I call up the dealer and ask if they had a chance to look at it.

*****************
Service guy says:

Yup....we did.

It does not do what you say it does when we have it running.

He said they did this they did that and it will not do it.

Tell me again what it does for you

******************

So I tell him that when the brakes are set and it is in neutral and you walk away from it, it will die out and the safety beeper sounds.

****************
He says

Oh so, when you are shifting from Hi-Lo-Med into neutral, it will die...aha

**************

NO I say...and explain over a 2nd maybe 3rd time

I also tell him to ask his delivery driver who had the problem happen 8 - 9 times when he delivered it to me.

They will check again...they say

I am not too sure they will actually find it ....much less do anymore troubleshooting

Today the dealer's service dept updated me saying they found a bad switch.

He said they tried this and that and determined it was a bad switch. He did not say which switch, but just a switch

He is over-nighting a switch to them and then will do his best to get the tractor back here by tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning.

I told him if he cannot get it back to me for the weekend to please let me know and I would hire / find someone to pick it up Friday

Our weather here has been in the lower 70's this week and I have stuff I could be doing with the tractor.

He started apologizing and said he would never allow his customers to hire someone to come get a tractor that is under warranty.

He said if nothing else, the salesman that sold me it would personally deliver it sometime Friday at the latest. I am 45 miles away, so it is not too bad.

Very nice of them to say that , but I hope they found the actual problem.

I just hope that over the winter I can save enough to get a trailer for myself if I need to haul it around

Good deal yooper, I was hoping that they come thru for you, specially on a brand new purchase. There will be more minor bugs/issues here and there but you have an excellent machine. keep an eye on oil &pressure , engine coolant & temp and you'll have a rig that will outlast you. I'd suggest of getting of shop manual for it or at the least IT manual and download parts breakdown from the NH website. You can start making your own library and start reading them from cover to cover. The more you know the details of your machine the easier you can solve simple problems. Other than major warranty stuff, simple things like switches, fuses and such does not warrant a trip back to the dealer as you end up wasting a bunch of time. A friendly dealer might order simple part under warranty to avoid transportation cost and time spent back and forth.

Had a similar situation with my T1030 after I got it ......... but it was all my fault.

Seems that if you get off the tractor and accidentally change the position of the PTO control from the rearmost position ............. the tractor will shut off just like it does with the seat switch.

Only took me half a day to figure it out.
