I have been lurking here at TBN for a few months now and finally decided to register. I have been using the forum to research my purchase of a JD 2210 w/BAR tires, 62" MMM, and 53" FEL. I ordered it a week ago and am anticipating a delivery date of May 9th. It looks like JD has hit a home run with this one as my dealer can't keep them in stock. I expect to use it for mostly mowing and some landscaping around my property. I plan on ordering a spare set of Turf's once the tractor comes in. After reading all of the posts here, I feel the 2210 should suit my needs perfectly. As a new poster, I can already thank TBN for the help I've gotten in making my decision. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute to the forum in the future. Anyway, any advice about the 2210 or "things to look for" before receiving my tractor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, TBN!

bn_bullet,

Congrats on your new tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You'll be loving life soon. First thing you should do though is update your profile with all of your new stuff and your location in the world. Put some pictures out here when your new baby arrives. There are also numerous threads out here on others 2210 deliveries. A couple of them have had minor setbacks when delivered so this might provide you with detailed knowledge of what to look for. Best of luck

tdenny,

Thanks for the welcome. I just updated my profile (should've done that when I registered, oops!) and as you can see, I live in Leonardtown, MD and my local JD dealer is Carroll's Equipment. They are a very good dealer to work with and have proven that many times to the customers here in Southern Maryland.

I am hoping that I don't have the same problems as some of the others have had but I'm sure my dealer will take care of any issues that may arise.

Like many others, I have been struggling to decide whether I really NEED the Bar tires or should I just go with the Turf's? I'm hoping that the Bar tires will work well while playing in the dirt and maybe for some snow removal. As mentioned, I ordered it with the Bar's but I'm thinking I'll just purchase some Turf's after I receive it. I'll have to give my evaluation after I receive them (just to add to the confusion). Anyway, thanks again for the welcome!

bn_bullet,

Not being critical at all but I'm curious on why you though you'd want or need the Ag tires. I lieu of starting a great tire debate in this thread I will tell you that many of us TBN'ers have turfs and have zero traction problems with them. It might only snow once a year at my house and I'm sure in Maryland you get lots.

Another suggestion for you might be to try the middle road and get the R4's which aren't as aggressive as your Ag's but might provide more traction than the turfs and they look cool too. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Do some searches on snow plowing if that is your main concern. I can remember reading many threads on which tires the snow plowers find the most useful.

tdenny,

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the R4's. I hadn't really thought about those because I don't remember seeing them listed as an option unless I bought them seperately. I know that I plan on doing some work with the loader and a blade or box scraper in some muddy areas. That was why I chose the Ag tires over the Turfs. I was concerned that the Turfs would get clogged up with mud and become slippery. Have you had any experience with this?

Maybe the R4's would be a better choice. They might be a good compromise for me. I don't have "golf-course" grass, so I'm not really worried about some minor aberrations in the lawn from the tires. Can the R4's be ordered on the 2210 from the factory or would my dealer have to swap them out? Any idea? How well do the R4's work on soft ground? Or, are they mostly a turf tire?

I appreciate all of the responses so far. It's great to get advice from people who've already been through these decisions.

bn_bullet,

I am not really very familiar with the 2210 but I would think your dealer would be able to get you any of the tread options. I've seen other sub compacts with the R-4's on them. I was originally going to purchase a brand new Kubota B7500 with the R-4's on it. I don't have golf course grass either and I've heard that the R-4's really aren't too hard on grass as long as you don't use your turning brakes or 4 wheel drive when mowing. One of the TBN'ers from my area (Kodiak) does estate mowing type of jobs and he has R4's on his NH.

I live near Seattle (everybody knows about our rain) and believe it or not I've never actually seen mud on my property. I have VERY rocky sandy soil and it drains faster than you can imagine - so my turfs work extremely well. Someone else might be able to comment on how they work in muddy conditions.

Hi, bn_bullet. Welcome!

I ended up with a set of bars and a set of turfs for my 2210. While I don't think it is necessary, it just worked out well for me because I already had a set of rear mounted bars when I bought my 2210. Depending on your snow removal needs, terrain, and your ratio of mowing-to-loader use, you will likely be fine with turfs.

As for the R4s, Deere does not offer them as a factory option on the 2210. Nobody has yet figured out why, and I don't know if your dealer can help you or not. I also do not recall anybody with a BX stating they have R4s either. Maybe the 26" R4 is not (readily) available /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You may have read that I had a trans fluid leak shortly after delivery. My dealer took good care of me and there is a service alert about a condition where the toplink plate (they call it a hinge) can flex an immeasurable amount from pressure from a hydraulic ram mounted internally that serves the rockshaft. The first strike solution is a beefed-up toplink (hinge) plate which your tractor will likely to be shipped with. You could ask your dealer to ensure that this is the case. If your dealer needs a reference, you could tell him that there is a "DeTac" case from Delaware. DeTac is the Deere Technical Action Center (I think /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif) where such issues are recorded and disseminated to the dealer network.

Other than that, it's a perfect machine for me. The loader is very capable, the 62C mower gives a beautiful cut (I got the mulching kit), and the handling is very tight for a tractor with this footprint. If you still have time, you might add the rear worklight kit for $35, or so. You might also see if you can have the dealer weld chain grab hooks on your bucket before delivery--also worth the cost if you can't get the dealer to throw the shop time in.

Have fun and be safe--not necessarily in that order. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the welcome here at TBN! What a great group of people!

Well, seeing as bigpete confirmed that the R4's aren't available on the 2210 yet, I guess I'll stick with my original plan to receive it with the bars and buy a set of turfs also. I really hate to purchase both sets if I don't need them but for the few times I want to get dirty the bars might worth having. Besides, my neighbor has a 755 with both sets and I can't be outdone, can I? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

bigpete, Thanks for the detailed response about the trans fluid leak. Knowing this, I can check with my dealer to see if Deere is now building them with the stronger toplink plate. My dealer has always been very good about ensuring customer satisfaction so I'm sure they will check into it if I ask. I'll let everyone know if in fact Deere is shipping them this way when mine gets here.

One other question, what other implements have you guys tried on your 2210s? Anyone use a PHD? What brand and what modifications were necessary to make it work? I've read where some people trim the auger bit down to accomodate the shorter height of the subcompacts. Anyone actually try this? Also, has anyone used a tiller behind their 2210? Just curious how well it did. I'm thinking up all kinds of projects that may be possible. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thoughts?

Sorry for all of the newbie questions but I really do appreciate the responses.
