ROPS Police:eek: cuff him and take his tractor privileges away. Just kidding:D, I know someone will say something, why not be the first. I just think and most would agree that in the woods there are alot of stumps and holes around that with lifting a log and moving it is very dangerous.

By the way nice looking tractor. What brand grapple do you have looks beefy?

Thanks. The grapple is a WR Long. There are heavier ones out there but that also takes away from lift capacity. This one is pretty stout. My property is flat as a tabletop so no real problems unless I get stupid. The ROPS extended in the woods catches low branches. The ROPS police can cite me if they want too. I will show due remorse and continue to operate with the ROPS down....unless I think a situation requires it to be up. A pic of Old Blue

Thanks for the pictures. I actually only looked at the first one. I'm on dialup since my high speed wireless went off line in a snow storm. I'll look at the last two pictures when I get high speed back.

John, I operate the same way in the woods, ROPs down. Many other people do too. I didn't do it until my ROPs took out a big branch and I almost got crushed. Having the ROPs down suddenly made lots of sense. Your operators manual even says that if you operate with your seat belt off, you should also put the ROPs down. However, even with loaded rear tires, I find a big grapple load will make me awful light in the rear. Have you lifted the rear yet with a big grapple load? I keep a boxblade on the 3PH when I'm using my grapple and it makes the tractor very stable.

I did have it happen. At the start of a lift I tried to pick up 2 logs when if first got the machine. I wanted to see what the limits were. The rear started lifting up...only about 6" a little surprising the first time. A box blade sounds a good solution. Jim, your side picture has to catch everyones attention. What happened?

This happened:

Diggin' my pond

I was digging that dirt on purpose, cleaning up after a dozer had done most of the work. For a long thread with lots of pictures, search for "Silt Happens" and you'll see "the rest of the story.":)
