Finally got the replacement thumb on (Backhoe broke my thumb, continued....) The Rankin thumb had unzipped, called my dealer and had him order this from Attachment Sales. It arrived in short order, cost 570.00 delivered. The Rankin cost 455.00 installed by the dealer. I weighed it after I got it off, it scaled at 44 pounds complete. I paid the dealer the 115.00 upgrade and had a mobile certified welder come up and weld it on, cost me 55.00. By the way, this thumb weighs a tad over 100 pounds, more than twice the Rankin, and this one is STEEL, not pot metal. I picked up a can of Allis Chalmers orange and painted the mount on the crowd arm. It is a real good match for color and cost 4 bucks a can.

So, how does it work? Do you like it? Did your dealer know about the AS thumb when he installed the Rakin thumb? Did he like the AS thumb? Looks great! Enjoy!

Rowski, yes I definately like this. The dealer did not say, but I got the impression that he was not aware of Implement Sales (niether was I ) when he made the comment, "we may do business with these folks again." I called them and got a quote, then called the dealer and told them what I wanted and told them the quoted price. Dealer claimed that was exactly what it cost them also. I found the Allis Chalmers paint in a farm supply store in Spokane. I was surprised at how well it matched. Also touched up a couple spots on the Kubota and was pleased with the match. I sure wish the paint on the tractor was as good as the loader, but it is not. If yours is not Orange, I guess that info is a moot point.
Question: What do you do with the link arm when the thumb is retracted??

That's a good question. I was going to ask you if you had any ideas. Most likely I'm going to make a mount somewhere on the main body of the hoe, not on the boom or crowd arm. Maybe MarkC could chime in and let us know what he did if anything. MarkC is the one that got me into getting the thumb that I have. I didn't even look at other makes. There were also 2 excavators (large ones) in my area that have the AS thumb. So I jumped and it turned out o.k. for change.

One thing need to do is get some hitch pins like yours. Mine came with bolts and lock nuts.

We are thinking along the same lines, I was hoping you had worked something out. I will call John at AS and see if he has any proven idea. Mine also came with a collar and bolt, I suspect that is to keep it together during shipment. It sure wouldnt take long to get tired of that arrangement however. The pins are cheap enough, I usually keep a half dozen extra in the tool box.
