Was reading a news story about a new tick illness. As if things weren't bad enough!

My property has always had a heavy tick population. 2 years ago, I contracted Ehrlichiosis - no fun. Since that experience, I've started treating all my clothing with Permethrin. While nothing is 100%, this stuff works great and I highly recommend it to anyone working outdoors.

I've thought about spraying the entire property and would be interested in knowing if anyone has attempted large scale tick control.

Here is a link to the nasty new problem:

My mother, 89 next month, quit eating meat several years ago. It caused her to itch, now the itching seems to have stopped but, she only eats a little bit of meat. I couldn't figure out why the supposed alergy started so late in her life and thought it might have been, all in her head. Now, I think it might have been caused by a tick bite. Thanks for the information, Kioti.

I've got a bunch of fire ant mounds. Out of the goodness of my heart, I will designate as surplus all that you can dig up and transport back to your place. FREE.

They voraciously eat all ticks and red bugs they can find...actually, all other insects as well. So, come on down and get a couple hundred mounds to scatter over your property....:dance1:

I saw that article just yesterday. As if the ticks we have weren't bad enough. Really a weird situation.

Buddy of mine that I've known since about 2nd grade developed a red meat allergy overnight several years ago. Things like this might explain it. He has to carry an epi pen with him. He said he would kill to be able to eat a steak again. :)

This is a new one on me. But yes we have used liquid seven mixed in a tractor sprayer with a large boomless nozzle. Works good for us making 1-2 applications a year. After a few years you can skip a year or two just watch your population. But any permethrin would work also.

Do tell? I didn't realize fire ants had any, even if somewhat dubious, redeeming qualities.

John, I really think it would be better for all concerned if we sent our ticks down your way.

around here we have lots of cases of Lyme Disease, caused by little tiny deer ticks. Sometimes it's extremely difficult to diagnose the infections as different people react differently and symptoms can mimmick dozens of other illnesses.

I got infected twice, my mother nearly died with an illness they couldn't diagnose, my 6 yo granddaughter got it, it's everywhere.

We don't need another tick issue.
