New to checking fluids

/ New to checking fluids #12
When I rolled my little Steiner, I let it sit for a couple of hours, then disconnected the fuel solenoid so it wouldn't try and start. Then turned it over, trying just quickly at first to see if it was hydro locked. All went fine.

Nobody is that quick.

My understanding is hydro lock isn't always an engine destroyer. When I sank my atv, it just stalled before bending rods or valves, etc..(i.e. the engine doesn't make enough torque to destroy it's components.) I wonder if this is less true as the number of cylinders increases (i.e. can 7 firing cylinders overpower 1 flooded)?

Anyways,
My understanding is the real problem of hydro-lock is that the STARTER can apply enough torque to destroy rods or valves when piston is trying to compress a non-compressible liquid. And the damage would probably be done on the first couple strokes when one attempts restart.
I'd let it sit upright for a day+ if I wasn't going to give the cylinders some pressure relief otherwise (like removing glow plugs or cracking injectors).

Started the tractor and had light smoke coming out of the front. Looks like oil, not sure if would've continued to come out or not. Maybe I should've ran it for 10 or 15 minutes? I know fuel leaked out some. 20190926_135305.jpeg

Prob just pil that got ontop of the piston. Run it long enough to heat it up if all the fluids check out and you dont hear any noises.

It would have been good to rotate that engine by hand to make sure you didnt hydrolock it. After that fluid check and start it.
