Hello,

I've just moved up here(Upton. Ky.) from Florida and have 43 acrea farm. I want to get into cattle (have 2 now). I would like to clear off part of it for about 40 heads and keep the rest for hunting & fishing.
Does anyone know of someone close that is cheap in price? I want to collect quotes for now, so when Im ready in a couple of months. I can sign a contract to get it done all at once.
Thank you so much for your time and response. You take care and have a safe & blessed day.

Sincerely,
Leela

I'm not much help, but have you determined how much land you need to run 40 head of cattle? Unless you plan on feeding hay year round, you won't have anything left for hunting and fishing. Honestly, I don't think you have enough unless it's all high producing pasture.

If you have real good established pastures you should figure one acre per head. In my view unless you are going to have access to a souce of hay for the winter you will want to keep some pasture set aside for hay and cut it and put it up for winter feeding. Further you want to consider the grazing pressure the cattle will put on the acres you open for grazing and the weather has a lot to do with it. If you have a dry summer you will have to feed hay in the summer as well as winter. If you overgraze your pasture you can ruin it quickly. Good Luck.
