Just scored a 2009 5055D with about 125 hours (yes one hundred twenty five).

When I first looked at the tractor, it seemed to me that the engine, frame & chassis had been repainted. Several things got my iterest:
  • I have a 5105 and these parts are black on that tractor;
  • the filters had been painted over (no the filters, and likely the oil, have not been changed in 3 or 4 years);
  • There were places where tape had been placed over something (i.e. serial numbers) to keep paint off it;
  • There was overspray on linkage bolts (PITA later) and some of the rubber boots (the ones on the end of the steering cylinders).

I've done a few cars and this looked like a hastily done job where the car is not stripped. The quality of the paint was good, so I thought this might have been something done by a dealer.

The guy selling the tractor was liquidating his father's estate and didn't know much about the tractor. He did have paper work to show that it was purchased new in April 2010. My local dealer ran the sn and confirmed the purchase date, and that there had been 2 warranty claims at 25hrs (couldn't tell me what they were). The deal was good, I needed a tractor, so I took the leap.

Well, imagine my surprise when I started looking around here about 5055's and there were a couple of posts with pictures and those tractors looked like they had been painted as well!

So, question is, is this normal? The 5055D is made in India - is this an India thing? How about other models manufactured in other places?

Here are some posts I saw with pics of NEW 5055D's. Expand the pics a bit and look at engine parts. You can see that some are painted, particularly the oil filter...

BTW this is no knock on the tractors or the owners pictured - mine looks just like these. Really just wanting to see if this is normal.

I have a new 2013 5055E and the engine oil and hydraulic filter are both green. The tractors like yours with the black belly from what I figured out are USA built and the green belly are built in India.
