Hi , this is my first post . I just bought a 140h3 at a yard sale
a few weeks ago . Just started going through things it seem to be
in good running condition . I got a tiller , snowblower , blade , three
point hitch and a 48" deck.
I changed the oil and the transmission oil today
my concern with the trany oil is it took for ever to fill
I looked for a vent but can't seem to find it .
Any help to find it would be appreciated.
Thx Steve image.jpg

Wow 115 views and no one has any old 140's
that has any experience advise on the transmision oil change.
Thanks for looking though.

I looked in JDparts.com in parts cat #1245 for a 140 and found no breather on trans.

Hi Steve, I have an old 68 140 H1 that has been sitting under a tarp for about 6 years now. Uncovered it last weekend and she started right up where I drove it into the garage. I plan to take my time and slowly restore this grand old tractor and put it to work around my property. I just went through the hydraulic oil change myself yesterday. I put in low viscosity John Deere hyguard. although I think our transmissions are different Sunstrands. I found a tiny breather screen on mine right up from the bottom of the axle housing next to a drain plug which I don't think the H3 has. I also tried to clean it with solvent. I had the same problem as you. It took forever to get the fluid in after the first 2 quarts. I also tried popping the screen out to no avail. I don't have the correct manual for my tractor yet. Guessing our screens are plugged up, because the oil would bubble up and spit at me.. Anyway I need to order the right manuals for my tractor. The engine runs strong and does not smoke but does have a loud tap to it. I also have an old Cub Cadet 108 around the same year at my brother in-laws house. I gave it to him and he never used it. It has been sitting under his deck for the last 6 years. It has the larger Kohler 14 hp in it. I plan to haul it back over here as it has some interchangeable parts. I may even try an engine swap into the old Deere. Looking forward to some pictures and your ventures with the old 140. I plan to strip mine down and repaint it and plan to restore it slowly. Barry

I had a 140 H3, that is one powerful little beast. I always said it was John Deere's attempt to take a big tractor and shrink it keeping the power of the big one. Of all my previous tractors I miss that one the most, the camshaft shattered while I was snow blowing a 5' drift.

There is a breather screen I'm just trying to remember where it is (I have the original owners manual that I will check next time I go out to the garage.)
