Just bought this and can not get the PTO lever moved, I have a feeling the previous owner never used it, so its been in the off position for 30 plus years, I assume this judging by the nice paint (not a repaint) on the swing arms and 3PH in general.

It has a Kubota belly mower deck that is raised/lowered by the 3PH which is another reason I think the PTO has never been used.

I have yanked on it as hard as I can with my gloved hand many times while depressing the clutch.

My personal next step would be to put a breaker bar (piece of pipe) on it for more leverage but I thought it might be better to ask here first.

Any ideas welcome, would rather try everything before spliting the tractor.

I have a B5200 and I assume mine is identical other than a few hp difference to yours. That being said, I noticed on mine to engage the pto I have to hold the lever with light pressure as I slowly let the clutch out and then the pto lever pops in and pto is engaged. I think I would not try forcing it with anything. My pto is also almost never used on this tractor, but as I said it goes right in if I pull lightly on it while easing out on the clutch. Best of luck I hope I have helped.

Forget the breaker bar!!! Try creeping a little bit (inches) in forward and reverse while engaging the clutch and lightly trying to move the pto lever. Might take several tries, but should eventually work. Good luck.....Regards, Mike

I would not use force, as the levers and linkages are not very strong. If above suggestions do not work, you'll need to go to the source of the problem directly and try to move it there.

Hi All, thanks for the ideas, I tried them all, including releasing the clutch slowly while in reverse, 1, 2 and 3, I might add the lever does move just a little bit, not much, just stays stuck between 540 rpm and 825 rpm.

Engage at idle.

I went out and tried it at idle again, no luck.

I might add that I understand what all of you are telling me, there are times when trying to move a stick shift into gear that it does not go and one simply lets out the clutch slowly and she will just drop into gear. I assume its the same with this PTO lever.

I have tried it every way that I can and it will not engage into 540 rpm or 825 rpm.

I would crawl underneath and check that there is nothing externally binding the linkage.

I'm not sure how the pto is put together internally, but I wonder if for safety with the engine off you could turn the pto shaft by hand a few revolutions and maybe reposition something internally to allow it to engage? I don't know if it would do anything but its simple enough to try.

With tractor at idle RPM, put some pressure on the PTO lever, step on clutch, let clutch out, then step on it again while pulling on PTO lever. May take a time or two so, be patient. If you put excess force you will only bend the linkage.
