2010 JD
Just purchased a 2010 JD gas model, I know nothing about how to shift or use the lifting levers. Tractor has been sitting outside for the last 5 or 6 years, Just got the motor started, had to clean the points, remove carb and clean it. Cannot get it to shift into gear when running, think the clutch is stuck to the flywheel tractor seems to want to move but I never hear any gears grinding and unless it turn it off it will not go completely in gear. It is going to be a project.

Try lock brakes, put on gear hit the starter. It might brake clutch loose. Might also try engine off brakes off in gear pull tractor
sometimes that will break clutch loose rather than turn engine. If not look like you get to split the tractor. Good Luck.

Got the tractor loaded and home. Pulled to break brakes loose then put in gear with clutch down and pulled to break clutch loose. Have issues with clutch once I got the tractor moved some I was able to push the shifter to 1st gear, it would not go in but would start to roll the tractor then it clicked in. Clutch is not releasing but was able to get it loaded. Front tire would not climb the trailer ramp an I started pushing the trailer and truck then the clutch released. Trouble is it stayed released and would not engage, I pulled it back from the trailer and found a board to use as a middle ramp, then the clutch was in the mode of not releasing, did get it into 1st and loaded on the trailer. Not sure what to think about the clutch, not releasing seems the clutch is rusted to the flywheel, but not engaging must be the throw-out bearing is sticking on the shaft and not sliding back ? Tractor has been sitting outside for at least 5 years, when I got it running I had power steering after I got it in m barn I see it is leaking Hyd fluid on the front tires so I assume I will be working on the Power steering unit. Have an coolant leak around the water pump hose, Oil pressure light is on when running, has oil an hoping the sender is bad will put a gage on it to find out for sure. Guy told me the PTO was not working so I am guessing a pin needs replaced. The loader when I tried to lift it I blew a hose an sprayed HYD oil all over the end of the building where it has been sitting for the last 5 years, used my Kubota to raise the loader and one cylinder was stuck raised the whole tractor. Finally got the cylinder free enough to raise the bucket a couple of feet so I could load it on the trailer. Hope it will be worth the effort, does not seem to run too bad so it I get the other issues ironed out. Mike

Sounds like a good project as long as it has oil pressure. If you have to go for bearings etc. might be time to rethink the project. Other than that sounds like a good project. Needs elbow grease and lots of WD40 but not too much in parts. Sounds like fun. Keep us posted on your progress.
