I just brought a John Deere 5410 at an Auction, it seemed pretty tight, very little wear on the clutch pedal or floor board. I just glanced at the hours, thought it said 1750, after I bought it and was loading I noticed the hours were 17502.8, The engine tag says 2001 model; how could a tractor get that many hours and not be worn-out? There is a little slack on the PTO shaft and seal needs replacing, but it's not bad. Very, very little smoke (normal). There is also a "sentinel" something mounted on the side, it has 4 lines running up to the water jacket. it's about 2 inches round and 6 inches tall; any ideas on what this does? My best guess is that it was on a catfish pond, but still 17000 hours? Like said the tractor seems pretty tight, no problems so far, (only ran about 1 hour, light bushhogin. Any ideas, also what problems might be on the horizon? I'm thinking about putting a Koyker loader on it; is this loader OK?

thanks for the help!

Are you sure it said 17502.8? Often there's a little hourglass symbol on the hourmeter that could possibly be misinterpreted for an 8...

Anyway, if it came from a catfish farm, I'd bet it spent a good deal of time hooked up to an aerator pump or something like that... Lots of hours running the pto as a stationary power unit.

I was watching the hours as I ran it that little bit, I wish it was but it's not an 8. I also timed the tenths, there are right at 6 minutes apart at normal PTO speed. so i'm guessing the hour meter is correct.

I agree, sounds like it ran an aerator and flush/fill pump for many hours on end. As for the loader, I like my Koyker 185 loader much better than the BushHog 2846QT on my 7610.

And here I was told these new tractors just don't last! Landfill candidates all!

Course it's a John Deere, might have something to do with the buncha hours it's managed to survive!:D :D :D

Back where I grew up there are lots of them on the farms!:D :D :D
